Chapter 10 - THE FINAL WHISPERNight fell over the Hale estate like a heavy velvet cloak.

The ocean waves crashed softly against the jagged cliffs below the bluffs, sending a cool, salty breeze sweeping across the manicured lawns and through the open windows of the master suite.
Inside the darkened bedroom, Dominic stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, looking out over his sprawling, impenetrable domain. The city lights twinkled in the distance like a sprawling field of digital diamonds—subservient, quiet, and completely under his control.
A pair of soft arms wrapped around his waist from behind, and gentle hands pressed flat against his chest.
"You're working late again, Mr. Hale," Claire’s voice murmured against his shoulder.
Dominic covered her hands with his own, turning slowly within her embrace until he was looking down into her bright, fearless eyes. The moonlight cast a silver sheen across her pale face, highlighting the exact same quiet strength that had made him fall for her when the world was falling apart.
"I wasn't working," Dominic said softly, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. "I was just thinking."
"About what?" Claire raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk touching her lips. "About the new shipping routes? Or about how many security guards you need to fire this week?"
"About eleven days ago," Dominic replied, his voice dropping an octave as the memory flickered in his mind. "About a little girl with a stuffed rabbit walking into my private study. About a blinking green light behind an old brass clock. And about how a frightened bride walked straight into a lion's den just to save her sister—and ended up taking over my entire world."
Claire laughed softly, resting her forehead against his chest.
"You make it sound like a hostile takeover," she whispered.
May you like
"It was," Dominic admitted, his lips curving into a slow, dangerous smile as he pulled her closer against him. "And for the first time in my life... I have absolutely no intention of fighting back."
Outside, the antique clock in the study struck midnight, its heavy brass gears ticking in a steady, unbroken rhythm—marking the exact second of a new era where the most feared man on the East Coast, and the woman who outsmarted him, ruled the shadows together, forever untouchable.
