Chapter 10 - DAWN OVER LAKE FORESTThe sun rose slowly over the sprawling Lake Forest estate, burning away the morning mist and painting the white stone pillars and mirrored windows in a warm, golden light.

For the first time in two years, the mansion didn't feel like a tomb holding its breath.
Down in the massive industrial kitchen, the smell of fresh buttermilk pancakes and brewing coffee drifted through the halls. Clara stood by the stove, humming softly to herself as she flipped a golden-brown pancake, the dull ache in her ribs finally fading away.
Footsteps echoed softly on the tile floor.
Noah padded into the kitchen wearing oversized dinosaur pajamas, rubbing his sleepy eyes. He stopped near the kitchen island, looking up at Clara with his big, dark eyes.
"Morning, buddy," Clara said with a warm smile, placing a plate of pancakes on the counter. "Sleep well?"
Noah nodded slowly. He climbed up onto the bar stool, picked up his fork, and took a bite.
A moment later, heavy, confident footsteps sounded in the doorway. Dominic Vale walked in, dressed in a crisp black shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking more like a man and less like an untouchable corporate warlord. He stopped behind his son, resting a large, grounding hand gently on Noah’s small shoulder.
Dominic looked up, meeting Clara’s eyes across the kitchen island. There was no iron wall between them anymore—just mutual respect, a shared secret, and a fragile, hard-won peace that nothing in Chicago could ever shatter again.
"Coffee?" Clara asked, lifting the pot.
May you like
Dominic smiled—a rare, genuine, breathtaking smile that transformed his entire face.
"Make it two," he said softly, pulling out the chair next to his son. "And Clara? Welcome home."
