Chapter 7 - THE AWAKENING OF THE LIONESS“Jack...”

The word was barely a puff of air against the oxygen mask, but it hit me like a lightning strike.
I shot up from the chair, pressing the nurse call button with my elbow while keeping both hands locked onto hers. “Hannah! I’m here. I’ve got you.”
Her dark eyes slowly blinked open, clouded with pain and confusion, squinting against the harsh hospital lights. She looked around the sterile room in a panic, her breathing rate spiking on the monitor.
“The... the baby...” she gasped, her voice raw and cracking. “Where... is our baby?”
“She’s alive,” I said firmly, leaning over her so she could see my face clearly. “She’s in the NICU. She’s fighting just like her mother. Dr. Lawson says she’s strong.”
Hannah let out a long, shuddering exhale, a tear escaping the corner of her eye and sliding into her hair. “I tried... Jack... I tried so hard to keep her safe from Julian... from your world...”
“I know,” I interrupted, my voice dropping into a low, deadly growl. “I know everything, Hannah. And Julian is paying for what he did. I broke his jaw at the Plaza tonight, and that’s just the down payment.”
Hannah’s eyes widened with sudden terror. “No... Jack, you don't understand! Julian didn't act alone! He’s just a front man for the syndicate! The men who want your empire—they forced him to send those messages! If you go after Julian directly, you’re walking right into an ambush!”
The door to Room 347 burst open before I could answer.

Ryan sprinted into the room, his face pale, holding a smoking tactical radio in his hand.
“Jack! We have a major breach! The hospital perimeter has been surrounded by armed mercenaries! They’re cutting the power grid right now!”
