Chapter 10 - The LegacyTwo months later, the private wing of the Westchester medical clinic was locked down tighter than a federal vault.

Inside the delivery suite, the rhythmic, steady monitor beeped in time with Chloe’s heavy breathing. Sweat matted her hair, and her fingers gripped the edges of the hospital bed so tightly her knuckles turned white.
Standing right beside her, holding her hand with a grip that was almost bone-crushing, was Leo Moretti. The fearsome crime lord, the man who made bankers tremble and syndicates scatter, looked pale, sweat-slicked, and entirely terrified.
“If you ever make me go through this again, I’m divorcing you,” Chloe gasped through a contraction, glaring at him.
“Agreed. No more children. One is enough,” Leo repeated frantically, wiping a damp lock of hair from her forehead with a hand that was actually shaking. “Push, Chloe. Just one more—Dr. Ellis, tell her to push!”
“I am pushing, you idiot!” Chloe yelled back, squeezing his hand with the force of a hydraulic press.
Dr. Ellis smiled calmly from the foot of the bed. “I see the head, Chloe. One more good push and our newest Moretti joins us.”
With a final, desperate cry that echoed down the quiet corridors of the clinic, Chloe pushed with every ounce of strength she had left.
And then, the sharp, beautiful, unmistakable sound of a piercing cry filled the room.
Dr. Ellis lifted a tiny, squirming bundle wrapped in a soft white blanket, cutting the cord before handing the newborn directly to Chloe’s chest.
Chloe burst into tears, her breath catching as she looked down at the tiny face, the shock of dark hair, and the ten tiny fingers clutching the air.
“It’s a boy,” Dr. Ellis announced, beaming.
Leo stared down at the infant, completely frozen. The tough, unyielding armor of his entire existence melted away in a single second. Tears welled up in his dark eyes as he reached out a trembling finger, gently touching the baby’s tiny cheek.
The infant stopped crying instantly, turning his small head toward Leo’s finger and wrapping a microscopic hand around his index finger with surprising strength.
Leo let out a ragged, uneven breath, closing his eyes tightly for a moment before looking down at Chloe with an expression of such raw, devastating devotion that it took her breath away.
“Leo,” Chloe whispered, smiling through her tears. “Hold him.”
Leo carefully scooped the baby into his massive, capable arms, cradling his son against his chest as if holding the most fragile, precious treasure in the universe.
“Welcome home, Leo Junior,” Moretti whispered softly to the infant, his voice thick with emotion.
