Chapter 5 - A New OrderThree weeks later, the Moretti estate felt fundamentally different.

The heavy, oppressive atmosphere of fear and suspicion that had lingered in the shadows for years had vanished, replaced by the quiet hum of genuine security and respect.

In the master dining hall, sunlight streamed through the tall stained-glass windows.

Sophia Carter—fully recovered, healthy, and carrying a glowing color in her cheeks—stood near the sideboard, organizing fresh linens. She wore a tailored supervisor’s uniform, having been promoted by Alessandro to head of estate hospitality with a salary that guaranteed she and Emma would never have to worry about rent, medical bills, or survival again.

At the main table, Alessandro sat reading the morning financial reports over black coffee.

Across from him sat three-year-old Emma, wearing a brand-new pink dress with frills, happily dipping pancakes into a small bowl of maple syrup.

“Are you going to wear the white shirt today?” Emma asked around a mouthful of pancake, pointing at Alessandro’s impeccably pressed shirt.

Alessandro looked down at his collar, perfectly ironed without a single crease or scorch mark. A faint, genuine smile touched the corners of his mouth.

“Only if my personal assistant approves it first,” Alessandro replied gravely, holding out the cuff for her inspection.

Emma squinted at the cuff, leaned forward, and nodded solemnly. “Approved. Good job, Mr. Moretti.”

Sophia watched from across the room, a warm, tearful smile gracing her face. She had spent years believing men like Alessandro Moretti only knew how to destroy things. She had never imagined one would step out of the shadows to protect her little girl.

Alessandro caught her eye across the table and gave a subtle, respectful nod.
