Chapter 10 - THE FINAL STITCHThree weeks later, a sleek black courier envelope arrived at the front gate of the Vale estate.

There was no return address.

There was no postage stamp.

It had been hand-delivered by a local dock worker who claimed a blind old man in a railway station had paid him twenty dollars to drop it off.

Jack brought it straight to the study, placing it on the desk between Mason and Emily.

Mason sliced open the heavy paper with a letter opener.

Inside wasn't a threat.

It wasn't a ransom note.

It was a single, faded black-and-white photograph taken twenty-five years ago.

It showed a younger Arthur Sterling standing beside a smiling, middle-aged man in a dockworker’s uniform—a man with kind eyes and a scarred cheek.

On the back of the photo, written in shaky, elegant cursive, were three final words:

The loop is closed.

Mason stared at the photograph for a long, silent moment.

Then he slid it across the desk toward Emily.

She picked it up.

Her fingers traced the face of the man in the uniform—her father, whom she had thought dead for two decades, living out his final days in quiet peace somewhere across the sea, finally avenged by the very machine that had tried to crush them both.

Emily set the photograph down beside a silver tray.

On that tray sat a single, brand-new pair of surgical scissors.

She looked up at Mason.

Mason looked back at her, a subtle, unspoken understanding passing between them—the kind of bond forged in blood, fire, and absolute survival.

“Keep them close, Emily,” Mason said softly. “We might need them tomorrow.”

Emily smiled, picking up the scissors and letting the sharp blades catch the light of the desk lamp.

“Don't worry, Mr. Vale,” she replied, her voice echoing quietly through the invincible fortress they had built together. “I always keep my stitches tight.”
