Chapter 10 - BloodlineEthan leveled his pistol directly at Viktor’s chest, his hands locked in a rigid, unwavering grip. "Let my daughter go, Viktor. Right now, or I swear to God I will put a bullet through your heart."

Viktor chuckled, a cold, rich sound devoid of any warmth. He didn't even flinch at the muzzle pointed at him. Instead, he gestured casually with his glass toward the mercenaries, who immediately raised their rifles, their laser sights painting bright red dots across Ethan’s chest.
"You can shoot me, Ethan. Truly, you can," Viktor said, his voice as smooth as silk. "My men will turn you into Swiss cheese before your finger even pulls the trigger. And little Sophie here? Well, she’ll join her mother in the quiet earth, and the Vandenberg legacy will remain completely unchallenged."
Sophie whimpered, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Daddy... don't let them take me."
Ethan’s mind raced at lightspeed. He couldn't shoot—the risk to Sophie was too high. He had to play their game, just long enough to trigger the hidden failsafe he had uploaded to the cloud before leaving the police station.
"You want the flash drive," Ethan said, keeping his voice dangerously calm as he slowly reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the small black USB device. "You want the patents. You want the trust fund."
"I want everything, Ethan," Viktor smiled, stepping forward. "Clara thought she could run away with the keys to the kingdom and hide behind a tech CEO. She was wrong. Just like you are wrong if you think you can fight a war against people who own the governments you pay taxes to."
Viktor reached out his hand to grab the flash drive.
Ethan held it out, his fingers grazing Viktor’s palm. A grim, satisfied smile touched the corners of Ethan’s mouth.
"You forgot one thing, Viktor," Ethan whispered.
Viktor frowned. "What?"
At that exact second, the entire mansion’s emergency lighting flickered back to life, followed by a loud, automated klaxon blaring through the speakers.
“FEDERAL ASSET SEIZURE IN PROGRESS. JURISDICTION: INTERPOL AND FBI.”
Heavy boots echoed from the front stairs as federal agents in tactical gear swarmed the second-floor landing, flashbangs detonating with deafening booms that filled the room with blinding white light and thick smoke.
"NOW!" Ethan roared.
He dropped to the floor, pulling Sophie down with him as a firefight erupted around them. Bullets splintered the mahogany walls, but within seconds, Viktor’s mercenaries were disarmed, pinned to the floor, and zip-tied by federal agents led by the local police chief.
Viktor stared in absolute disbelief as federal handcuffs were slammed onto his wrists, his expensive suit dragging across the dusty carpet.
As Viktor was dragged past him toward the stairs, Ethan stood up, brushing off his jacket, holding a sobbing but safe Sophie tight in his arms. He looked dead into Viktor’s eyes and said softly:

"It turns out, the Vandenbergs weren't the only ones who knew how to build a trap."
Outside, the first light of dawn broke over the Connecticut horizon, washing away the shadows of the mansion and revealing a new, unbreakable future for father and daughter.
