Chapter 10 - The Final Reckoning and the New DawnViktor Rostov stood amidst the wreckage of my front hall, holding a heavy-caliber tactical pistol in one hand, his face twisted in a mask of furious desperation. He looked around at his fallen men, then slowly raised his eyes to the grand staircase where I stood, my rifle resting casually in my arms.

"It ends here, Viktor," I said, descending the stairs one slow, deliberate step at a time.

Rostov raised his pistol, aiming straight for my chest. "You think you won, Ryker? Even if you kill me, my network is global. They will hunt those kids down to the ends of the earth just to—"

Bang.

A single, perfectly placed round from Marco’s sniper position in the gallery shattered the concrete pillar inches above Rostov’s head, showering him in stone dust.

Rostov froze, the color draining entirely from his face as he realized he was completely, hopelessly outmatched.

I walked right up to him, stopping just a foot away. I didn't raise my weapon. I just stared into his terrified eyes with absolute, chilling calm.

"Your network is already burning," I whispered. "While you were planning this little suicide mission tonight, my cyber-strike units wiped out every offshore bank account, shipping manifest, and safehouse your syndicate owns across three continents. You are a ghost, Viktor. And tomorrow morning, international authorities will find every single ledger of your criminal empire neatly packaged on their desks."

Rostov’s pistol slipped from his trembling fingers, clattering uselessly against the marble floor. He fell to his knees, utterly broken.

"Take him to the basement holding cells," I ordered without looking back. "Hand him over to the federal marshals when they arrive at sunrise. Tell them Ryker Steel made a citizen's arrest."

"Understood, Boss," Marco replied, hauling the defeated syndicate boss to his feet by his collar.

As the heavy oak doors were finally secured and the cleanup crews moved efficiently through the shattered foyer, the amber emergency lights slowly transitioned back to the warm, bright glow of dawn.

I walked down the long corridor toward the east wing.

The heavy steel vault door of the safe room hissed open. Mrs. Gable stood there looking pale but resolute, stepping aside as two small figures peeked out from behind her skirts.

Lily and Owen.

They rubbed their sleepy eyes, blinking against the morning light. Owen was still clutching his earless teddy bear.

When Lily saw me standing there—no tactical vest, no rifle, just wearing my usual dark shirt and calm expression—her face lit up with a brilliant, unconditional smile. She ran across the floor as fast as her little legs could carry her and threw her arms around my knees.

Owen followed a second later, burying his face into my coat.

I knelt down, wrapping my arms around both of them, pulling them close against my chest where they belonged.

The storm outside had finally passed. The shadows were gone.

And as the golden morning sun poured through the tall windows of the Steel Manor, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:

They were safe. They were loved. And they would never, ever be abandoned again.
