Chapter 1 - THE WHISPERED ESCAPEFrank Walker pulled Elena into a sterile, windowless security office. He slammed the door and locked it, his breath coming in sharp, shallow bursts. He tore the handcuffs off her wrists with trembling hands.

"You have to listen to me, Elena," he said, his voice a low, urgent rasp. "Your father isn't who you think he is. You’re not being hunted by the police. You’re being hunted by the men he betrayed."

"I don't care about the mafia," Elena sobbed, rubbing her wrists. "I just want to find my mother’s sister. I just want out!"

Frank looked at the surveillance monitors—dozens of screens showing the terminal. On screen four, a man in a grey suit was calmly showing a badge to a desk agent and pointing at the security office.

"They're here," Frank said, his face going pale. "Go out through the maintenance hatch behind that filing cabinet. Don't look back. And whatever you do, don't trust anyone in a suit."
