Chapter 9 - The Final AuditThe lower levels of Site 9-Delta were a labyrinth of stainless-steel corridors, chilled server racks, and high-security detention cells.

They met resistance in the central atrium—a dozen Consortium tactical operators clad in black composite armor, rushing up the industrial metal stairs with rifles raised.
They didn't stand a chance.
Damon didn't shout tactical commands; he simply moved like an executioner balancing a ledger. Two rapid shots dropped the lead operator before he could shoulder his weapon. Salvo and Diego laid down a devastating crossfire from the lower landing, pinning the remaining guards against the humming server banks.
And then there was the Warden.
Unleashed in the echoing concrete halls, the massive Rottweiler became a force of pure, primal vengeance. It surged up the metal stairs like a black lightning bolt, hitting the third operator with such devastating kinetic force that the man tumbled backward over the railing, crashing hard onto the grating below.
"Clear!" Diego roared, his weapon smoking as he scanned the upper catwalk.
Damon didn't slow down. He followed the digital floor map displayed on Diego's tactical pad straight to Cell 4 at the end of the sub-level corridor.
The reinforced glass door of the cell was secured by a heavy digital keypad flashing a solid crimson warning light. Inside, Elena sat on the edge of the steel bunk, her bruised graphite eyes widening as she saw the figure stepping out of the dim corridor shadows.
"Damon," she breathed, her voice cracking slightly for the first time. "You absolute fool. You walked right into their trap."
"I don't walk into traps, Elena," Damon said, stepping up to the keypad and holstering his pistol. He looked down at Maya, who was standing right beside him holding the silver key ring. "I perform hostile takeovers."
Maya stepped forward, slotted the brass token into the secondary slot beneath the keypad, and entered a seven-digit sequence based on the numbers of the ledger she had been reading on the plane.
BEEP.
The crimson light flashed green. The heavy magnetic locks hissed open, and the cell door swung wide.
Elena stood up slowly, her magnetic wrist cuffs clinking softly against each other. Damon didn't hesitate. He crossed the threshold in two strides, his strong hands catching her by the shoulders, pulling her against his chest with a fierce, possessive grip that defied every cold rule he had ever lived by.

"You left without giving notice," Damon murmured against her hair, his voice rough with a buried emotion no board of directors had ever witnessed.
"I had to keep the accounts balanced," Elena whispered back, burying her face in the lapel of his Tom Ford suit.
