Chapter 10 - A New EmpireThe paramedics finally stepped forward, gently placing Nicholas onto a rolling gurney to transport him to New York Presbyterian for observation. But before they wheeled him away, the billionaire reached out and grabbed Avery’s wrist.

His grip wasn't desperate this time. It was firm, respectful, and grounding.
“You saved my life twice tonight, Avery,” Nicholas said softly, his dark eyes softening as he looked up at her. “Once by keeping my heart beating, and a second time by exposing the rats gnawing at the foundations of my company.”
“You didn’t have to hit him,” Avery managed a small, tired smile, wiping a stray tear from her cheek.
“I enjoyed every second of it,” Nicholas replied with a genuine, rare smile. Then, he reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a heavy, platinum-engraved business card, pressing it firmly into her palm.
“Marino Atlantic Holdings is launching a global corporate medical ethics and crisis response division tomorrow morning,” Nicholas said, his voice ringing with absolute finality. “I need a Chief Director who sees what everyone else ignores, and who isn’t afraid of a fight. The salary starts at seven figures, with a full legal team dedicated to clearing your name from every false charge in Boston by sunrise.”
Avery stared down at the platinum card in her hand, then up at the most powerful billionaire in New York, who was looking at her not as a subordinate, but as an equal.
“What do you say, Avery?” Nicholas asked quietly. “Are you ready to stop waiting tables and start running the room?”
Around them, the entire dining room of Hawthorne House erupted into deafening, thunderous applause.
Avery looked down at her black apron, unknotted it slowly, and let it drop to the floor.
She looked back at Nicholas, her chin held high.
“Let’s go to work.”
