Chapter 6 - The Thirty-Year HeistThe truth unfolded like a nightmare coming to light.

Thirty years ago, my biological father, Arthur Vance, and his true love, Julianna Rose (Maya’s aunt), had built an international logistics and engineering empire worth over sixty million dollars. When Julianna gave birth to me in Zurich, she held eighty percent of the corporate trust shares in her name.
Six months after my birth, Julianna and Arthur died in a catastrophic, suspicious boat explosion off the coast of Amalfi, Italy.
Eleanor—Arthur’s estranged, power-hungry sister-in-law—and Ethan Vance—Arthur’s brother—executed a massive, fraudulent cover-up. They forged adoption papers, erased Julianna’s name from public registries, and claimed me as Eleanor’s biological son.
Why?
Because Julianna’s legal trust stipulated that on my thirtieth birthday, the entirety of the sixty-million-dollar estate, along with controlling shares of Vance Global Engineering, would automatically revert to me—or, in the event of my death without an heir, to my surviving immediate family (Eleanor and Chloe).
My thirtieth birthday was in two weeks: August 30th, 2026.
Eleanor had raised me not out of love, but as an asset—a golden goose to milk for cash while I grew up, and a trophy to slaughter before my thirtieth birthday so she could steal the ultimate trust.
When I married Maya four years ago, Eleanor was terrified. She knew Maya’s family carried the bloodline and records of Julianna Rose. If Maya ever dug into her family’s past, she would discover that David’s late father’s fortune actually belonged to Maya’s family heritage, and that Eleanor was nothing more than an imposter who had stolen a baby and a fortune.
When Maya got pregnant with Liam, Eleanor knew her time was running out. Once Liam was born, he became the primary legal heir after me. Eleanor couldn't just kill me; she had to eliminate Maya and Liam first, make it look like a tragic health crisis, secure Power of Attorney, and then orchestrate my "accidental" death overseas in Germany.
Sitting on the floor of Eleanor’s bedroom, holding my real mother’s birth certificate, tears finally spilled down my face.
My entire life—my childhood memories, my mother’s affection, my sister’s smiles—had been a dark, calculated lie.
“David,” Detective Reed touched my shoulder, his voice filled with intense sympathy. “We have enough to lock them away for the rest of their natural lives. FBI Financial Crimes is taking over the federal fraud aspect. Ethan Vance’s location in Miami has just been pinned.”
I wiped the tears from my eyes. The grief inside me turned into cold, unbreakable diamond.
“Don’t arrest Ethan yet,” I said, looking up at Reed.

“Why?”
“Because I want to destroy him myself—in the boardroom.”
