Chapter 10 - A New EmpireSix months later, the Chicago winter had finally given way to the warm, golden sunlight of early summer.

The Palmer House incident was quietly swept away by federal authorities, swallowed up by a maze of classified documents and sealed indictments that tied Connor Bell and Daniel Shaw to international money laundering. The underworld of Chicago returned to a fragile, enduring peace—only this time, the throne was shared.

Inside the sprawling penthouse overlooking Lake Michigan, the morning light streamed through floor-to-ceiling windows.

I stood by the crib in the nursery, watching our newborn son sleep peacefully with tiny fists clenched against his chest.

Footsteps approached softly behind me, followed by strong, familiar arms wrapping around my waist, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest.

"He has your eyes," Gabriel murmured, resting his chin gently on my shoulder.

"And your stubbornness," I replied, leaning back into his embrace with a contented sigh. "Are you sure you want to retire from active enforcement? The capos still expect you to rule with an iron fist."

Gabriel turned me around in his arms, his dark eyes filled with a deep, unbreakable devotion.

"Let them manage their own territories," Gabriel said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to the scar visible along my ribs—a permanent reminder of a nightmare we had both survived. "My entire empire is right here in this room. I spent eight months hunting a ghost, Clara. I'm never letting you out of my sight again."

I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck as the morning sun washed over us both, knowing that no matter what shadows lurked outside, our storm had finally passed.
