CHAPTER 1: The Boy Who Refused to Walk Away

The grand ballroom of the Crown Imperial Hotel glittered with crystal chandeliers, champagne towers, and the laughter of the city's wealthiest families.

No one noticed the elderly woman sitting quietly in a wheelchair near the entrance.

Her beige cardigan looked old.

Her silver hair was neatly tied back.

Her hands trembled slightly as guests walked past without even making eye contact.

To everyone else, she looked like just another forgotten grandmother waiting for someone who had probably abandoned her.

Except for one person.

A young hotel trainee named Ethan stopped in the middle of his shift.

He ignored the impatient guests calling his name.

He ignored the manager glaring across the lobby.

Instead, he walked straight toward the elderly woman.

He knelt beside her.

"Ma'am... have you been waiting long?"

She smiled gently.

"Only about three hours."

Three hours.

Ethan's heart sank.

"Has no one offered you water?"

She slowly shook her head.

"They've been... very busy."

Ethan looked around.

He knew exactly what that meant.

Everyone had seen her.

No one thought she mattered.

Without another word, Ethan disappeared.

Moments later, he returned carrying a silver tray with tea, warm bread, fresh fruit, and a blanket.

He carefully placed the blanket over her shoulders before pouring her tea with both hands.

"You deserve to be comfortable," he said softly.

The old woman's eyes glistened.

"You remind me of someone I lost a long time ago."

Across the lobby, several wealthy guests burst into laughter.

"Look at that rookie."

"He thinks he's some kind of hero."

"Helping a homeless old woman during the biggest charity gala of the year?"

Even Ethan's supervisor stormed over.

"What are you doing?" he hissed.

"VIP guests are waiting!"

Ethan stood.

"She is a guest too."

The supervisor rolled his eyes.

"She isn't spending a dime here."

"Stop wasting the hotel's time."

Ethan refused to move.

"If treating people with dignity is wasting time..."

"...then maybe I'm working in the wrong place."

The words echoed through the marble lobby.

People stopped talking.

The supervisor's face turned bright red.

"You've just destroyed your career."

He grabbed Ethan's name badge and ripped it from his jacket.

"You're finished."

The young trainee quietly picked the badge up from the floor.

He smiled anyway.

Then he turned back to the elderly woman.

"I'm sorry you had to witness that."

She reached for his hand.

"You've already given me something no one else has today."

"Respect."

Before Ethan could answer...

The hotel's massive front doors slowly opened.

One...

Two...

Then six black luxury SUVs rolled up outside.

Security officers rushed into formation.

Executives wearing expensive suits hurried toward the entrance with terrified expressions.

The general manager, who had been entertaining billionaire donors upstairs, suddenly sprinted down the staircase.

His face had turned completely pale.

He looked directly at the elderly woman.

Then froze.

Without saying a single word...

He slowly removed his suit jacket...

Lowered his head...

And whispered words that made every person in the lobby stop breathing.

"Madam..."

"...we've been searching for you."

The smiling old woman gently squeezed Ethan's hand.

Then she looked at the stunned crowd...

And quietly replied,

May you like

"I've already found the person I came here to meet."
