Chapter 6 - The Trap is Set

Over the next week, I played the part of the oblivious, compliant fiancé to absolute perfection.

I attended the florists' meetings. I approved the luxury catering contracts. I smiled for the local lifestyle magazines as they took photographs of Tessa and me standing in front of our mansion, hailing us as "Tennessee's Power Couple of the Year."

Tessa was thrilled. Her paranoia from the clinic incident seemed to fade as I pretended that the baby had been placed with a state child services program under my supervision, convincing her that I was keeping the matter quiet to avoid a public scandal before our big day.

"You're being so mature about this, Rowan," Tessa said one evening as we stood on our balcony, sipping champagne. "It's best to handle these distasteful family matters silently behind closed doors."

"Of course," I replied, raising my glass to hers. "Silently."

Behind the scenes, however, a very different plan was taking shape.

I hired a team of elite private security contractors to guard Maren and the triplets at a secure, undisclosed estate in the mountains of East Tennessee. No one—not even Vance—knew their location.

At the same time, my corporate legal team worked around the clock, analyzing the contents of the black flash drive.

What we found went far beyond Maren’s framing and the third baby's concealment.

Tessa and her father, Senator Richard Whitmore, had been using the Whitmore Charitable Foundation to launder millions of dollars from foreign investors into local political campaigns. Furthermore, Tessa had used company funds from Bellamy Global Logistics—stolen through forged signature authorization while I was distracted by my divorce—to pay off clinic doctors, private investigators, and corrupt media figures.

She hadn't just destroyed my marriage. She had been systematically bankrupting my company from the inside out to fund her father's upcoming gubernatorial campaign.

Three days before the wedding, I received a private visit at my corporate office from Vance Miller.

The investigator looked terrified, his eyes sunken and dark.

"Rowan," Vance stammered, locking the door behind him. "You need to be careful. Senator Whitmore knows something is wrong. He's placed wiretaps on your corporate phones."

"I know," I said calmly, without looking up from my desk. "I allowed him to put them there."

Vance blinked, stunned. "What?"

"I wanted them to hear exactly what I wanted them to hear," I smiled coldly. "I've been feeding them fake legal updates, making them believe I'm preparing a quiet prenuptial agreement settlement."

Vance fell into a leather armchair, sweating profusely. "Rowan, these people are dangerous. If Senator Whitmore loses this election because of a scandal, he won't just sue you... he will ruin you. He will make sure you lose custody of those children forever."

"He can try," I stood up, leaning over my desk. "Vance, you have a choice today. You can either be a co-conspirator in a federal fraud, kidnapping, and racketeering indictment... or you can be my lead witness."

Vance swallowed hard, wiping his brow with a handkerchief. "What do you need me to do?"

"I need you to make sure every major news outlet in the country has a reserved front-row seat at the wedding," I ordered. "Tell them Rowan Bellamy is making an announcement that will change Tennessee politics forever."

Vance swallowed heavily, nodding slowly. "God help us all."
