CHAPTER 5: THE CEO'S SECRET DESTROYED EVERYTHING THEY THOUGHT THEY KNEW

The ballroom stood frozen.
Every eye turned toward the CEO.
For years, he had been celebrated as the man who saved Hayes Automotive from bankruptcy.
The loyal executive.
The trusted leader.
The man who had just defended Margaret in front of the world.
Now...
He was smiling.
Not kindly.
Not nervously.
But with the quiet confidence of someone whose plan had worked for decades.
Margaret stared at him in disbelief.
"No..."
"It can't be you."
The CEO slowly removed his tailored suit jacket and laid it across the hood of the silver prototype.
"You always were brilliant, Margaret."
"But brilliance has one weakness."
She frowned.
"It trusts people."
A wave of whispers spread through the crowd.
Richard lay on the floor, barely conscious, desperately trying to speak.
"I... told you..."
"He... was the one..."
The CEO looked down at him with absolute contempt.
"You should have died years ago, Richard."
The words hit like a bomb.
Everyone gasped.
Even the police officers exchanged stunned looks.
"What did you say?" the lead detective demanded.
The CEO laughed.
"I said Richard outlived his usefulness."
Margaret's hands trembled.
"You manipulated him?"
The CEO nodded.
"Every step."
He slowly walked toward the giant screen behind the stage.
"When you invented the engine twenty-five years ago, I wasn't interested in your technology."
"I was interested in your company."
With one click of a remote, another hidden archive appeared on the screen.
Thousands of confidential emails.
Bank transfers.
Secret contracts.
Every document had one signature.
Adrian Cole.
The CEO's real name.
The crowd erupted.
Reporters shouted over one another.
One journalist screamed,
"He's been controlling the company from the shadows!"
Adrian smiled.
"Finally."
"Someone understands."
Margaret felt sick.
"You convinced Richard to steal my patents."
"Yes."
"You told him to declare me dead."
"Yes."
"You forged the ownership records."
"Yes."
"And when Richard became too greedy..."
Adrian interrupted.
"I made sure he took all the blame."
Richard began crying.
For the first time in his life...
The ruthless businessman looked completely broken.
"I was just a puppet..."
Adrian glanced at him without emotion.
"You were an easy puppet."
The ballroom exploded with outrage.
Investors shouted.
Employees cried.
Some executives quietly slipped toward the exits.
But Adrian wasn't finished.
"You all think tonight is about justice."
He laughed softly.
"It's about timing."
He pressed another button.
The giant screen displayed a countdown.
00:04:59
The CEO looked at the crowd.
"Do you know what happens in five minutes?"
Nobody answered.
"The ownership of Hayes Automotive automatically transfers to an offshore investment group."
Margaret's heart sank.
"No..."
"It can't."
"Oh, but it can."
"I rewrote every digital agreement three years ago."
The company lawyers hurriedly opened their laptops.
One after another...
Their faces turned white.
"It's true!"
"The transfer has already started!"
"If the countdown reaches zero..."
"...the company is gone!"
Panic swept through the ballroom.
Employees burst into tears.
Investors began making frantic phone calls.
The stock price crashed in real time.
The lead detective aimed his weapon at Adrian.
"Stop the transfer!"
Adrian simply smiled.
"I can't."
"Only one person can."
He turned slowly toward Noah.
The little boy froze.
"Why... me?"
Adrian's smile widened.
"Because the final security key isn't the brass key."
"It isn't a password."
"It isn't a signature."
He looked directly into Noah's frightened eyes.
"It's your fingerprint."
The entire room gasped.
Margaret stepped protectively in front of her grandson.
"What did you do to him?"
Adrian answered calmly.
"Nothing."
"I simply prepared for the day he would inherit everything."
Noah looked at his grandmother, confused.
"I don't understand."
Margaret suddenly remembered something.
Years ago...
When Noah was only a baby...
Someone had insisted on taking his fingerprints for a "family archive."
Her blood ran cold.
It had been Adrian.
The countdown continued.
00:02:41
Then...
Without warning...
Every light in the ballroom went out.
Darkness swallowed the room.
A deafening alarm echoed through the building.
When the emergency lights flickered back on...
Adrian Cole was gone.
So was Noah.
Margaret looked around wildly.
"Noah!"
Her voice echoed through the empty ballroom.
No answer.
Only one small object remained on the stage.
The worn brass key.
And beneath it...
A handwritten note.
Margaret picked it up with shaking hands.
It contained just eight chilling words.
May you like
"If you want him back... come alone tomorrow."
