Chapter 10 - THE DON'S NEW QUEEN: THE END OF THE SHADOWS AND THE BEGINNING OF AN UNBREAKABLE EMPIRE!

The study of the Servino estate was warm and quiet, the crackle of the fireplace throwing long, dancing shadows across the mahogany shelves.
Katarina sat on the leather sofa, the USB drive resting on the low table between them. Vittorio stood by the window, his back to her, his shoulders heavy with a weight he had carried for twenty years.
"Silvio was telling the truth, Katarina," Vittorio said quietly, his voice devoid of all hope. "Your father was killed by a Servino weapon. My father ordered the hit because your father refused to let the family run drugs through the union docks."
Katarina’s heart shattered. "And you? Did you pull the trigger, Vittorio?"
Vittorio turned to face her, his gray eyes filled with a raw, agonizing pain. "No. I was nineteen years old. My father threw the gun at my feet and told me to prove my loyalty. I looked at your father—a man who had done nothing but protect his family—and I refused. I threw the gun into the river."
He took a deep breath, his hands trembling slightly. "My father was furious. He had his right-hand man, a monster named Falcone, pull the trigger instead. I was sent to Sicily in exile for five years as punishment. But I never forgot your father’s face. And when I returned to take over the family after my father’s death, the first thing I did was set up that medical trust for your mother. I couldn't bring your father back, but I swore I would protect what he left behind."
Katarina looked at him, her eyes filling with tears. The doubt that had plagued her for days vanished, replaced by a deep, profound understanding of the man standing before her. He wasn't the monster who had killed her father. He was the boy who had chosen exile rather than become a murderer.
She stood up, walked across the room, and wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face in his chest.
Vittorio froze in surprise, before his arms came around her, holding her so tight it felt as though he were trying to merge their two souls into one.
"I don't care about the past, Vittorio," she whispered, looking up at him. "The past is gone. You saved me from Chase. You saved me from the Marcones. And you saved your own soul twenty years ago."
Vittorio looked down at her, his dark eyes filled with an all-consuming, fierce adoration. He reached into his vest pocket, extracting a stunning, flawless emerald ring—the exact color of the gown she had worn to the ball.
"I don't want you to be my assistant anymore, Katarina," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "I want you to be my wife. I want you to rule this city by my side, as my queen."
Katarina smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that reached her eyes and filled the room with warmth. She slid her hand into his, letting him slide the ring onto her finger.
"Yes, Vittorio," she said. "The shadows are gone."
Two years later, the Servino Holdings building still dominated the Philadelphia skyline, but the atmosphere on the 28th floor was no longer cold or silent.
The employees still stood at attention, but it was out of deep respect for the beautiful, elegant woman who walked through the double doors each morning hand-in-hand with the Don.
Katarina Aiello-Servino stood at the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking out over the peaceful city. She no longer wore heavy foundation to hide bruises, and her step was perfectly even, strong, and filled with the grace of a woman who had finally found her home.
Vittorio walked up behind her, his large arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. He kissed her temple, his scent of cedarwood and success wrapping her in absolute safety.
"The shipping manifests for the Naples terminal are ready, my queen," he whispered in her ear, his gray eyes shining with pride. "Shall we approve them?"
Katarina turned in his arms, her lips brushing against his jaw.
May you like
"Only if we approve them together, Vittorio," she said with a smile. "After all, we own this city now."
