Chapter 1 - The Footage That Unmasked the SnakesThe security alert on my phone blinked like a bleeding eye in the dark study. My thumb trembled over the touchscreen. The safe was empty, the missing $500,000 cash and five gold bars leaving a gaping void where our future was supposed to sit. But as the encrypted video feed loaded, my blood didn't just boil—it froze.

The camera hid behind the ventilation grate of my private study, installed two years ago during a routine security upgrade. The time stamp on the footage read 3:14 AM, three nights ago.

On the screen, the study door creaked open. A tall silhouette stepped inside, illuminated only by the moonlight filtering through the blinds. It was Mason. He wore black leather gloves and held a master key card—one that only my wife and I were supposed to possess. But he wasn't alone.

Rosalind stepped into the frame behind him, holding a small flashlight. Her face was twisted into a malicious grin I had never seen before in my thirty-six years as her son.

"Are you sure the documents are here?" Mason whispered, his voice crisp through the high-definition audio.

"Of course they're here," Rosalind snapped softly. "He trusts that meek little fool Daphne with everything. She put the corporate seal, the original founder shares, and the physical bearer bonds in this very safe."

My breath hitched in my throat. On the monitor, Mason knelt before the high-grade safe. He didn't use a stethoscope or a dynamic decoder—he pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket and typed in the six-digit sequence instantly.

12-08-14.

The date Daphne and I got married. The date I used for everything.

The safe door clicked open with a heavy mechanical metallic thud.

Rosalind gasped as the flashlight beam caught the reflection of the gold bars and neatly stacked bands of $100 bills. "Half a million dollars..." she murmured, her hands clawing at the cash like a starving animal. "After all these years of living on his scraps, he finally pays what he owes us."

"This isn't just cash, Mom," Mason sneered, lifting a thick leather binder containing the original articles of incorporation for my medical equipment giant, Aegis Health Systems. "This binder holds the key. The original contracts state that the initial seed capital was provided by 'Family Trust Assets.' If we file the amended partnership deed before the board meeting tomorrow morning, I become the controlling shareholder by default. Ethan won't even have standing to sue us."

"And what about Daphne?" Rosalind asked, stuffing two gold bars into her tote bag. "She's getting suspicious. She caught me looking through his desk yesterday."

Mason paused, a dark, chilling smile spreading across his face. "Keep breaking her. Put her under so much physical and emotional stress that she goes into premature labor. If she's stuck in an emergency room bleeding out, Ethan won't be looking at corporate registry filings or safe balances. He’ll be too broken to fight back."

The video ended. The screen went black, reflecting my pale, horrified face in the dark glass.

They hadn't just come to steal money. They had planned a slow, deliberate assassination of my family. The daily abuse, the foot-washing, the humiliation, and the kick to her pregnant belly—it wasn't just my mother's cruel personality. It was a calculated weapon to trigger a miscarriage and distract me while they staged a hostile takeover.

Downstairs, the front door lock suddenly chimed. Someone was typing the entry code.
