Chapter 6 - The Paperwork WarGrace stared in shock as the man from the diner—the broken, tearful man she had served meatloaf to yesterday—stood between her trailer and a thirty-ton bulldozer.

“Mr. Harrison?” Grace gasped, walking forward with Emma trailing behind her. “What are you doing here?”
Robert turned to her, his posture softening. “I came to pay back my debt, Grace.”
Before the site supervisor could react, a second vehicle—a white van marked with local news television logos—pulled into the trailer park. A camera crew leapt out, lenses aimed directly at the confrontation.
Behind them came three squad cars from the State Police, their red and blue lights flashing.
Victor Sterling stepped out of a private sedan behind the bulldozers, his face flushed with rage. He pushed past the security guards and stormed toward Robert.
“What is this circus, Robert?!” Victor shouted. “The board voted two hours ago! You’ve been removed as CEO! You have no authority here!”
“The board voted based on false financial statements you provided, Victor,” Robert said calmly.
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a thick stack of legal documents tied with a red ribbon.
“While you were planning your corporate coup last night, my personal attorneys were filing an emergency injunction with the State Supreme Court,” Robert announced, facing the television cameras. “This entire property is now classified as a federal crime scene under investigation for corporate fraud, illegal land seizure, and manslaughter.”
The crowd of trailer park residents gasped.
Victor’s eyes widened in panic. “You’re bluffing!”
“Am I?” Robert pulled out a wireless tablet and tapped the screen.
A audio recording played loudly through a portable speaker Robert had set up on his car hood.
It was Victor’s voice from the previous night: “Business requires pragmatism, brother-in-law. Gabriel Martinez was a nobody. If we had admitted fault, the OSHA fines and lawsuits would have killed the IPO...”
The news camera zoomed in on Victor’s pale, sweat-slicked face.
“You tapped your own office?” Victor stammered, stepping back.
“I built this company, Victor,” Robert said softly. “Did you really think I didn't know every microphone and security camera in that building?”
State Police officers stepped forward, clicking handcuffs off their belts. “Victor Sterling, you are under arrest for obstruction of justice, fraud, and conspiracy.”
As the officers grabbed Victor’s arms, he glared at Robert with pure venom. “You destroyed your own company for a waitress and a trailer park kid!”

Robert looked at Emma, who was staring up at him with wide, bright eyes.
“No, Victor,” Robert replied. “I saved it.”
