Chapter 1 - THE ERASUREI hovered in the dark, a cold, empty void, hearing the rhythmic beep-beep-beep of the machines. I wasn't just unconscious; I was being kept under. Through the fog, I heard voices—Grant, my husband, and Judith, his mother.

"She’s holding on too long, Grant," Judith whispered. "The baby is the primary target. Once the fetal extraction is complete, we terminate the mother's life support. It’s the only way to cover the chemical signature."

My heart rate spiked. Grant didn't answer. He just sighed—a sound of exhaustion, not grief. "Do what you have to do. I need that company by Monday."
