Chapter 4 – "She's Under Arrest!" The Billionaire's Desperate Decision Leaves Everyone Speechless

The handcuffs clicked loudly enough for the entire lobby to hear.

Every conversation stopped.

Every elevator door remained open.

Every employee stared.

Just yesterday, Clara Miller had been the woman who made the billionaire's daughter smile for the first time in eight months.

Today...

She was being arrested for murder.

Two detectives stepped through the revolving doors with calm, practiced expressions.

One was tall, gray-haired, and carried a thick case file beneath his arm.

The other, younger and silent, stood beside Clara.

"Clara Miller?"

"Yes."

"We're placing you under arrest for the homicide of Emily Carter on October 18th... six years ago."

The lobby erupted.

"What?"

"She killed someone?"

"This has to be a mistake."

Margaret covered her mouth.

Robert instinctively stepped toward Clara.

"There must be some misunderstanding."

The older detective remained expressionless.

"We have a warrant."

He unfolded the document.

"It was reopened forty-eight hours ago after new evidence was submitted."

Clara didn't resist.

She simply looked confused.

"My mother..."

"My mother died when I was seven."

The detective met her eyes.

"According to these records..."

"...Emily Carter was not your mother."

At that exact moment...

Ethan stepped out of the executive elevator.

"What is going on?"

Margaret rushed toward him.

"The police..."

"They're taking Clara."

Ethan walked directly between Clara and the detectives.

"No one leaves until someone explains this."

The older detective recognized him immediately.

"Mr. Vance, this is police business."

"So explain it."

He didn't move.

Neither did the detectives.

The lobby had become completely silent.

Finally, the detective opened the file.

"Six years ago, a woman named Emily Carter disappeared after a fire destroyed a small house outside Albany."

"There was only one survivor."

"A thirteen-year-old girl."

He looked directly at Clara.

"That girl was you."

Clara's breathing stopped.

"No..."

"I lived with my grandmother."

"You've lived with her ever since."

"But before that..."

"You lived with Emily Carter."

The words echoed through the lobby.

Clara slowly shook her head.

"No..."

"My grandmother told me..."

The detective interrupted gently.

"Your grandmother lied."

Across town...

Richard Vance watched the arrest unfold on live television.

His assistant stood beside him.

"Should we intervene?"

Richard calmly poured himself a cup of black coffee.

"No."

"What if Ethan starts asking questions?"

"He already has."

Richard took a slow sip.

"He'll learn what every man eventually learns."

"The truth..."

"...always arrives too late."

Back in the lobby...

The detective carefully removed an old photograph from the case file.

"Do you recognize this woman?"

He handed it to Clara.

The moment she touched it...

The world disappeared.

Flames.

Smoke.

Someone coughing.

A frightened little girl hiding beneath a staircase.

A woman shouting—

"Run!"

Another voice...

A man's voice.

"No witnesses!"

A gunshot.

Glass shattering.

Someone grabbed Clara's tiny hand.

The woman with blonde hair...

Not Emily.

Not her grandmother.

Sarah.

Sarah Vance.

Clara gasped and collapsed onto one knee.

Her entire body shook violently.

"No..."

"No..."

"I remember..."

Everyone rushed toward her.

Ethan knelt beside her.

"What do you remember?"

She looked up.

Tears streamed down her face.

"There was a fire..."

"A little girl..."

"A blonde woman..."

Ethan's heart pounded.

"Who?"

Clara stared into his eyes.

"I've seen your wife before."

The lobby froze.

"What?"

"She..."

"She saved me."

Ethan felt the blood drain from his face.

"That's impossible."

"My wife never knew you."

Clara closed her eyes.

"I didn't remember..."

"...until now."

"She carried me outside."

"She told me to hide."

"She said..."

Clara struggled to breathe.

"She said..."

"'If anyone asks... forget my name.'"

Silence swallowed the building.

Even the detectives looked stunned.

The older detective slowly closed the file.

"Mr. Vance..."

"We never believed this was an ordinary homicide."

"What do you mean?"

He hesitated.

"Emily Carter wasn't just murdered."

"She was protecting someone."

"Someone people were willing to kill."

Before anyone could ask another question...

The front entrance exploded.

BOOM!

The glass doors shattered inward.

Employees screamed.

Smoke filled the lobby.

The emergency alarms began screaming through the building.

Someone had thrown a flash grenade.

Visibility dropped to almost nothing.

Armed men wearing black masks rushed through the smoke.

One shouted—

"TAKE THE GIRL!"

Chaos erupted.

Security guards tackled one attacker.

Another fired into the ceiling.

People scattered in every direction.

Margaret pulled Lily beneath the reception desk.

Robert wrestled with a masked man near the elevators.

Ethan instinctively grabbed Clara's arm.

"Run!"

They sprinted toward the emergency stairwell.

Behind them...

One masked man pulled off his glove while reloading.

For only a split second...

Clara saw a tattoo on his wrist.

A black wolf inside a burning circle.

Her eyes widened.

"I know that symbol..."

Ethan looked at her.

"From where?"

She whispered five words that changed everything.

"My mother was hiding them."

The masked man heard her.

His expression instantly changed.

He raised his weapon directly at Clara.

"She remembers."

Then he pulled the trigger.
