Chapter 8 - The True HeirThree days later, the storm had finally cleared, leaving behind a crisp, brilliant autumn morning over the Rossi estate.

The international investigators had descended upon the mansion, unearthing the offshore shell companies, confiscating Matteo’s illegal assets, and formally charging both Matteo and Valentina with kidnapping, conspiracy, and attempted murder. Valentina sat in a maximum-security holding cell, her expensive makeup ruined, realizing that her meticulous decade-long plot had completely unraveled in less than forty-eight hours.

Elena was finally free.

The estate’s private medical staff had moved her into the master suite on the third floor, where she was slowly recovering her strength, surrounded by sunlight and fresh flowers.

And in the grand nursery—the room that had stayed locked and empty for twelve years—a brand new double crib had been installed.

I stood by the window, looking out over the gardens where Sophia was happily feeding the swans in the lake, holding her little red umbrella like a scepter.

Behind me, the door opened softly.

Elena walked in, leaning slightly on a cane, but her eyes were bright and full of life. In her arms, wrapped in clean white linen, were two healthy, sleeping baby boys.

My twin sons.

"They're sleeping peacefully," Elena whispered, a soft, genuine smile gracing her face for the first time in over a decade.

I turned around, walking over to her and gently wrapping my arm around her shoulders. I looked down at the two tiny faces resting side by side—my blood, my future, and the continuation of a legacy that had survived the darkest betrayal imaginable.

"They're safe now," I promised her quietly. "No one will ever touch them again."

Elena rested her head against my chest, letting out a long breath of pure relief. "What happens now, Lorenzo? The empire... the family name?"

I looked back out the window, watching the sunlight glint off the iron gates of the estate. The monsters outside our walls might still call us ruthless. The world might still fear the Rossi name.

But inside these walls, the ghosts were finally gone.

"We rebuild," I said firmly, tightening my grip around the people who truly mattered. "And this time, nothing will ever tear us apart."
