Chapter 7 - THE FEDERAL RAIDThe heavy iron gates of the Moretti estate didn't just open—they were blown off their hydraulic hinges with a deafening BOOM that shook the glass windows of the mansion.

Sirens wailed, flashing red and blue lights cutting through the twilight like angry ghosts.
Within seconds, three black armored federal transport vehicles tore up the paved driveway, disgorging two dozen heavily armed tactical agents wearing full riot gear and ballistic helmets. At the front marched Captain Vance—a tall, weathered man with iron-gray hair, a scar across his left cheek, and a look of absolute triumph in his eyes.
“This is Captain Vance, Federal Anti-Corruption Task Force!” Vance’s amplified voice boomed across the courtyard through a bullhorn. “The estate is completely surrounded! Drop your weapons and come out with your hands on your heads! There is nowhere to run, Alessandro!”
Inside the grand foyer, the capos were panicking.
Old man Morello was pacing back and forth, wringing his hands, looking at the heavy oak front doors as if federal agents were about to burst through at any second.
“We’re finished!” Morello hissed, turning to Alessandro, who stood calmly at the foot of the grand staircase adjusting his cuffs. “The feds have a warrant! They have Isabella’s testimony! If they search the basement servers, we’re all going away for life!”
Alessandro didn't even look at him.
He looked at me.
I was standing beside him, wearing my sharp blue pantsuit, my expression completely serene. I tapped the screen of my tablet.
“Are the decoy servers active?” I asked.
“Running at 100% capacity,” one of our tech specialists reported from behind the marble pillars, typing furiously on a ruggedized laptop. “All the fake offshore accounts, simulated money-laundering trails, and fabricated text logs between Damian and Morello are live. The moment federal forensic teams plug into our main terminal, they’ll download gigabytes of airtight evidence—against Damian and Isabella.”
Alessandro nodded slowly.
“Let them in,” he ordered.
CRASH.
The massive mahogany front doors were kicked inward by federal boots.
Captain Vance stepped into the foyer first, his tactical pistol raised, backed by a dozen armed agents. His eyes swept across the room, landing instantly on Alessandro standing by the stairs, and me standing right beside him.
A smug, self-satisfied grin spread across Vance’s face.
“Well, well, well,” Vance sneered, lowering his weapon slightly as he stepped forward. “Ten years I’ve been trying to put cuffs on a Moretti. And it turns out all I had to do was wait for your disgruntled ex-fiancée to hand me the keys on a silver platter.”
Alessandro didn't flinch. He didn't raise his hands.
“Captain Vance,” Alessandro greeted smoothly, his voice echoing off the marble walls. “You look older. Desk jobs in Washington must be wearing you out.”
“Save the charm for the judge, Moretti,” Vance snapped, gesturing to two agents behind him. “Arrest him. Arrest all of them. And send a extraction team down to the east wing holding cell to retrieve Isabella Moretti. She’s our star witness.”
“You won't find her in the holding cell, Captain,” I said.
Vance stopped, turning his sharp gaze toward me for the first time. He looked me up and down—from my tailored pantsuit to the cracked phone resting in my breast pocket.
“And who the hell are you?” Vance demanded. “Another loyal maid willing to take the fall for a dying syndicate?”
I offered him a sweet, chilling smile.
“I’m the woman who just handed you the biggest case of your career, Captain.”
Vance frowned, suspicion flashing in his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“Go ahead,” I said, gesturing toward the master control terminal on the wall. “Your cyber forensics team has already plugged into our mainframe downstairs, haven't they? Ask them what they found.”
Before Vance could speak, his radio crackled to life.
“Captain Vance! Captain, this is tech lead!” A frantic voice squawked through the comms. “We’ve accessed the Moretti mainframe! We’re downloading gigabytes of financial records, offshore wire transfers, and internal communications right now!”
“And what does it show?” Vance demanded, keeping his eyes locked on me.
There was a tense, agonizing pause over the radio static.
“Captain... it’s... it’s all here,” the tech lead stammered in disbelief. “Millions in illegal kickbacks, shell company registries, cartel money laundering... signed, sealed, and authorized by Damian Ricci... and co-signed by Isabella Moretti!”
Vance’s face went completely blank. He stared at me, his mouth slightly open.
“What... what about Alessandro?” Vance breathed.
“Not a single illegal transaction is tied to his personal accounts,” the tech lead confirmed rapidly over the radio. “In fact... according to these encrypted server logs, Alessandro Moretti’s security team flagged these illegal operations months ago and was preparing to turn the evidence over to federal authorities... before Damian Ricci attempted a coup!”
The foyer fell into absolute, pin-drop silence.
Old man Morello and the capos stared at me in stunned awe. They hadn't known about the decoy servers. They hadn't known my master plan.
Vance slowly lowered his pistol entirely. He looked at Alessandro, then back at me, realizing with terrifying clarity just how thoroughly he had been played.
“You... you set this up,” Vance whispered, his voice trembling with frustrated realization. “You used us to legally wipe out Damian’s network, eliminate your internal traitors, and clear your own name using federal jurisdiction.”
“We are law-abiding citizens, Captain,” Alessandro said, his voice dripping with smooth, effortless mockery. “We simply assisted law enforcement in cleaning house.”

Vance stared at us for five long seconds, his jaw clenched so hard it looked like his teeth might crack. He knew he had been beaten at his own game. The evidence on the servers was airtight, legally obtained by federal warrants, and pointed squarely at a dead man and a locked-away prisoner.
“Get out of my sight,” Vance snarled through gritted teeth. He turned to his tactical team. “Pack up the servers. We’re leaving.”
