Chapter 7 - THE AWAKENINGWhen I returned to the penthouse, Claire was standing by the window. She saw the blood on my coat—blood that wasn't mine.

"Did you find him?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"He's safe," I said, stepping closer. "And they won't bother you ever again."

She looked at me, and for the first time, she didn't see the boss. She saw the man. She stepped into my space, her hand coming up to touch the bruise on my jaw from the fight. "You shouldn't have," she whispered.
