Chapter 10 - THE FINAL MIRACLETwo weeks later, on the sun-drenched veranda of the Caribbean hacienda, the ocean breeze was warm and sweet with the scent of blooming hibiscus.

Jonathan Carr sat at the rustic wooden table, sketching architectural designs for the small marine conservation center he was helping build down the coast.

Footsteps sounded softly on the wooden stairs.

Leo Buckland walked out onto the veranda, holding a fresh cup of black coffee in one hand and a thick leather-bound journal in the other. He didn't look like an underworld boss anymore. He looked like an old man who had finally found his peace.

He sat down in his rocking chair, taking a slow sip of his coffee.

Curled up near his feet, basking in the golden tropical sunlight, was Rocco. The dog lifted his heavy head, gave a soft, contented huff, and rested his chin back down on his paws, closing his eyes against the bright afternoon light.

Carr looked up from his sketchbook, smiling warmly at the old man. "Everything handled back north?"

Leo looked out over the sparkling, endless blue expanse of the ocean where the waves danced gently against the white sand.

"It's finished, Johnny," Leo said softly, a deep sense of finality settling into his voice. "Every loose end tied. Every debt paid."

Carr nodded, looking back down at his drawings. "Good. Because I think we're finally safe."

Leo didn't answer immediately. He reached down, his strong, weathered hand resting gently on Rocco’s broad, warm head. The dog leaned into the touch, a silent testament to an unbreakable bond forged in the dark corners of fighting pits, tested through years of bloody crime, and saved by a miracle beneath six feet of dirt.

Leo smiled, looking out toward the horizon where the sun was beginning its slow, brilliant descent into the sea.

"We were always safe, Johnny," Leo whispered to the wind. "As long as we had the dog."
