Chapter 9 - THE LAST SUNSETBack at the abandoned warehouse on Pier 21, the sirens were already wailing in the distance, growing louder by the second as local police units responded to the silent panic alarms.

Thorne and Marco were zip-tied securely to the heavy steel support beams, left for the authorities with a neatly typed USB drive containing every shred of financial evidence, offshore account number, and incriminating audio recording needed to lock them away for the rest of their natural lives.

Leo Buckland walked out of the warehouse doors, stepping back into the cool, cleansing rain.

Rocco trotted faithfully at his heel, shaking the damp mist from his thick black coat.

A sleek, unmarked black town car was idling at the edge of the pier, its engine purring like a caged tiger. A younger operative—one of Leo’s most trusted loyalists who had slipped away to the islands years ago and returned for this one final mission—sat behind the wheel, holding the door open.

Leo slid into the back seat. Rocco leaped in right after him, curling up comfortably across Leo’s lap as the car pulled away smoothly into the rainy night.

"Where to, boss?" the driver asked, glancing in the rearview mirror.

Leo looked down at the magnificent German Shepherd resting peacefully against his legs, then turned his gaze toward the endless highway stretching out toward the southern border.

"Home, son," Leo said softly, pulling his coat tighter around his shoulders. "Back to the sun."

The car accelerated, melting seamlessly into the heavy traffic of the sprawling city, leaving behind the wreckage of a criminal empire and the legend of a man who had walked out of a grave.
