Chapter 6 - THE FIRE REBORN“Get in the car!” Jonathan roared.

But it was too late. Men in black tactical gear poured out of the SUVs, weapons leveled.
“Mr. Harrison,” the lead guard shouted. “Step away from the targets!”
Jonathan stood, shielding Victoria and Tommy with his own body. He wasn't thinking about the board, the stocks, or the $2 billion acquisition.
“Clare!” Jonathan whispered into his watch-comm. “Activate the fail-safe.”
Suddenly, the streetlights in the entire downtown grid flickered and died. A localized EMP—a project Jonathan had funded years ago as a defensive measure—hit. The SUVs lost all power, the digital weapons systems jammed, and the street plunged into total darkness.
“Move!”
Marcus grabbed Victoria and Tommy, shoving them into the Mercedes.
The driver floored it just as the power grid surged back to life.

Jonathan stood in the middle of the street, the lights catching his face. He looked at the guards, then at his wife’s thugs.
“Tell Victoria Ashford,” Jonathan said, his voice cold, “that the merger is over.”
