Chapter 6 - THE SILENT OFFICE AND THE NEW EMPIREThree weeks later, on the top floor of the gleaming Navarro & Asociados glass tower, the view of Querétaro was breathtaking.

Valeria stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a porcelain mug of black coffee, watching the morning traffic flow seamlessly beneath her. Her neck was fully healed, the physical scars fading into invisible memories, replaced by an inner strength that radiated from her posture and her steady, unblinking gaze.
Esteban Vega walked into her private office, placing a thick, final dossier on the polished glass desk.
"It's officially over, Valeria," Esteban said with a respectful smile. "The court finalized the asset distribution yesterday afternoon. The apartment is 100 percent in your name, the offshore accounts recovered by the forensic audit have been re-credited to your corporate portfolio, and Mateo and his mother have officially vacated the jurisdiction. They've moved back into a small, rented room in a working-class suburb on the other side of town."
Valeria turned away from the window, walking slowly back to her desk. She didn't feel triumph, nor did she feel petty satisfaction. What she felt was an overwhelming, profound sense of peace.
"And Mateo?" she asked quietly.
"Working part-time as a warehouse stock clerk at a hardware supply depot," Esteban replied, shaking his head slightly. "His professional license is under review due to the corporate embezzlement inquiry. Nobody in the engineering sector will touch him with a ten-foot pole. His mother is reportedly working cash-in-hand shifts at a local bakery to help pay for their groceries."
Valeria looked down at the dossier. On the cover page, her name was printed clearly and proudly: Valeria Ortiz-Navarro. No hyphenated compromises. No borrowed identities. Just her.
"Let it go, Esteban," Valeria said softly, closing the file. "Close the case. I don't want to hear about them ever again."
"Done," Esteban said, offering a warm nod of admiration. "By the way, the board of directors meets in ten minutes to vote on your appointment as the new managing CEO of the regional division. Are you ready?"
May you like
Valeria smoothed down the lapels of her sharp blazer, checked her watch, and offered a confident, radiant smile that could light up the entire room.
"I've been ready my entire life," she said.
