Chapter 7 - Sunrise Over BostonThe morning sun broke over the Boston harbor, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber. The storm had passed, leaving the city washed, gleaming, and crisp.

Inside the executive boardroom of Whitmore Systems, the atmosphere was electric.

Seated around the massive glass conference table were Marcus Vance, the lead state prosecutor, three senior federal investigators, and Malcolm Whitmore. At the head of the table sat Norah Bennett, her posture flawless, wearing her repaired black dress like royal armor.

Maya sat in a small armchair in the corner, coloring in a picture book while Oliver sat beside her, quietly helping her choose crayons.

The lead investigator slid a signed document across the table toward Norah.

“Mrs. Bennett,” the investigator said with deep professional respect. “The cryptographic analysis matching the hardware token from Derek Vaughn’s safe to the transaction logs is definitive. The state prosecutor has officially dismissed all charges against you with prejudice. Furthermore, an arrest warrant has been issued for Derek Vaughn for wire fraud, perjury, and corporate embezzlement.”

Norah looked down at the paper. The nightmare that had consumed her life for eleven agonizing months—the closed doors, the humiliation, the empty bank account, the fear of losing her daughter—was officially over.

“Thank you,” Norah said, her voice steady and clear.

“Don't thank us yet,” Malcolm said from the side of the room, walking over and placing a leather-bound corporate charter on the table before her. “Lattice Health Analytics is currently under Whitmore receivership restructuring. As of this morning, our legal team has successfully stripped Derek Vaughn of his voting shares and executive title.”

Norah looked up at him, her heart skipping a beat. “Malcolm… what are you doing?”

“Restoring rightful ownership,” Malcolm said simply, sliding a golden pen toward her. “You built that company from a garage, Norah. It’s time you took your rightful seat as sole controlling share-holder and CEO.”

The room fell silent as everyone looked at Norah. She looked down at the pen, then across the room at Maya, who looked up from her coloring book and gave her mom a huge, gap-toothed smile and a thumbs-up.

Norah picked up the pen, her hand completely steady, and signed her name across the dotted line with the crisp, flawless flourish of a woman who had reclaimed her world.
