Chapter 15 - The First Dance of ForeverSix months later, the Calloway estate looked entirely different.

The cold, intimidating iron gates had been replaced by warm, welcoming brick pillars adorned with blooming jasmine. The interior was no longer a sterile museum of wealth; it was a home filled with music, laughter, and the patter of little scuffed shoes running down the hallway.
It was a Saturday evening, warm and golden, just like the night Lily had wandered into the grand ballroom beneath the crystal chandelier.
Only this time, there were no cameras, no cruel jokes, and no uninvited snickers.
In the center of the ballroom, a small stage had been built for the Calloway Foundation’s scholarship showcase. Dozens of children from across Charleston danced freely, their faces bright with joy.
In the corner of the room, three-year-old Lily—now four and full of boundless energy—spun around in a sparkling red dress, holding her worn stuffed rabbit in one arm while reaching out her free hand.
“Dance, Mama!” Lily cheered, pulling Maria toward the center of the floor.
Maria laughed, letting herself be pulled into the rhythm.
Richard walked out from the side study, wearing a simple linen shirt, holding two glasses of sparkling cider. He watched Maria spin with their daughter, the grace and fire in her steps reminding him of the exact moment he realized his life had truly begun.
Maria caught his eye across the room. She stopped dancing for a second, walked over to him, and took one of the glasses.
“You know,” Maria whispered with a playful spark in her dark eyes, “you still haven't asked me for that dance you promised.”
Richard smiled, setting his glass down on a nearby table, and extended his hand, bowing slightly.
“Mrs. Delgado,” Richard said softly, his voice thick with emotion. “May I have this dance?”
Maria placed her hand in his, stepping close as the string quartet began to play a soft, beautiful melody beneath the glowing crystal chandelier.
May you like
“Only if you can keep up,” she smiled.
And as they stepped out onto the polished marble floor together, surrounded by laughter, music, and a future built on truth, Richard Calloway knew he had finally found his home.
