Chapter 9 - THE ALLIANCE OF THE BETRAYEDElena wiped a tear from her cheek, her initial defensive posture completely gone, replaced by a desperate, hardened survival instinct.

“What kind of deal?” she asked, looking up at me from the sofa.

“Mason thinks he’s smarter than everyone else,” I said, pulling a digital tablet from my bag and placing it on the table in front of her. “He thinks that by hiding assets in offshore accounts and dummy corporations, he can serve his time, get out, and walk away a wealthy man. But Jonathan Vance, the lead forensic accountant working with Arthur Whitmore, found a backdoor on Mason’s secondary server.”

I tapped the screen, bringing up a secure digital ledger.

“Mason has a primary master key to an unmonitored cryptocurrency wallet containing over four million dollars in digital assets—funds he siphoned directly from my pre-marital accounts and Whitmore Enterprises,” I explained. “The government and Arthur’s legal team don't know about this specific wallet yet because it’s encrypted using a dual-authentication passphrase split into two halves.”

Elena leaned forward, her eyes narrowing as she looked at the screen. “Where are the two halves?”

“Mason kept one half stored in a digital vault only he can access from his prison phone privileges,” I said. “And he kept the physical backup recovery seed phrase stored in a safety deposit box... registered under your name, Elena.”

A slow, calculating realization dawned on Elena’s face. “The bank vault in downtown Denver. He told me to never open it unless he gave me explicit instructions in an emergency.”

“This qualifies as an emergency,” I said firmly. “If we go to that bank tomorrow morning before the federal marshals serve the seizure warrant on your accounts, we can legally retrieve the contents of that box using your ID and the power of attorney paperwork I had drawn up this morning with Arthur’s legal team.”

“And what’s in it for me?” Elena asked, her survival instincts kicking into high gear. “If I help you clean out his hidden crypto wallet, what happens to me?”

“You get enough of your own legally unencumbered funds to pack your bags, disappear, and start over somewhere far away from Mason,” I said without blinking. “And more importantly, you get the satisfaction of helping us strip him of every single penny he ever stole from us.”

Elena stared at me for a long moment, weighing her options. Then, a cold, bitter smile touched her lips—the exact same smile I had worn when I walked down the aisle of that ballroom six weeks later.

“Let’s do it,” she said, standing up and reaching for her car keys. “Let’s ruin him.”
