Chapter 10 - Epilogue — The New DynastySix months later.

The autumn air in Greenwich was crisp, carrying the earthy scent of falling leaves and woodsmoke across the sprawling lawns of the Vargas estate.

The massive wrought-iron gates were open, welcoming a new era of corporate philanthropy and stability. The internal restructuring of Vargas Group was complete: corrupt subsidiaries had been liquidated, fraudulent offshore accounts had been successfully repatriated by the Department of Justice, and the corporation had pledged two hundred million dollars to medical research and anti-corruption legal foundations in honor of my father.

Julian and Eleanor Vance stood trial in federal court two months after their arrest. The trial lasted a mere nine days. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning unanimous guilty verdicts on all counts: first-degree murder, conspiracy, wire fraud, and grand larceny.

Judge Sarah Sterling (no relation to Arthur, much to everyone's collective relief) handed down consecutive maximum sentences: life without parole for both mother and son, with strict orders prohibiting any communication between them.

I stood on the front steps of the Greenwich estate, wearing a tailored black wool coat, watching the golden sunlight filter through the ancient oak trees that lined the driveway.

My father’s original will, validated and unassailable, now governed my life. But the true inheritance wasn't the two hundred and fifty million dollars sitting in corporate reserves.

It was the unyielding resilience encoded in my blood.

A black town car rolled up the long driveway and came to a smooth stop at the front entrance. Arthur Sterling’s former deputy, now serving as my senior advisor, stepped out of the vehicle and walked up the stone steps, carrying a thick leather binder stamped with the Vargas crest.

"Valeria," he said, offering a respectful nod. "The international board delegates from London and Tokyo have arrived at headquarters. They're ready for your keynote address on the new global sustainability initiative."

I looked down at the binder, then back out toward the horizon where the sun was beginning to touch the tree line.

"Tell them I'll be there in ten minutes," I said.

I turned back toward the heavy oak doors of the grand estate, stepped inside, and closed them firmly behind me—ready to write the next chapter of an empire that nothing could ever destroy again.
