I stood on the wraparound balcony of my new home—a stunning architectural masterpiece on the coast of California, designed by my own firm, featuring clean lines, massive glass windows, and a studio where my drawing boards finally caught the morning light.
Inside, laughter echoed through the open-concept kitchen.
Bailey ran out onto the deck, her brown hair catching the sea breeze, holding up a completed art project with straight A’s glowing in gold marker at the top.
“Mom, look! I got an extra credit point for perspective!”
I smiled, pulling my daughter into a warm embrace, breathing in the scent of shampoo and pure, unfiltered childhood joy.
“I knew you would, sweetheart,” I said, kissing the top of her head. “You inherited your mother’s eye for detail.”
Down below, the ocean rolled endlessly toward the horizon, powerful, deep, and entirely free. Trevor Harrison had wanted to teach me a lesson about options, about control, about who held the power in our world.
He had succeeded, after all.
