Chapter 18 - The Battle of St. David’sThe parking garage of St. David’s Medical Center looked like a war zone.

Two black SUVs belonging to Salazar’s Dallas crew were riddled with bullet holes, their windshields smashed and tires blown out. Three of my guards were holding defensive positions behind concrete pillars, returning fire against a group of masked gunmen pinned down near the stairwell.

My Escalade screeched to a halt right in the middle of the carnage.

Before the vehicle had even fully stopped, I threw open the door and stepped out, dual-wielding my Sig Sauer pistols.

“Moretti!” someone shouted from behind a concrete pillar.

I didn't hesitate. I advanced methodically through the crossfire, letting my tactical training and cold, calculated rage guide every movement. A bullet grazed the shoulder of my suit jacket, tearing the fabric, but I didn't even flinch.

I fired twice, dropping the gunman nearest to the stairwell.

Marcus rushed up beside me, reloading his submachine gun with practiced precision. “Boss! The kids are safe! Dr. Harrison locked them inside the secure pediatric panic room on the third floor. They’re untouched!”

The wave of overwhelming relief that washed over me was instantly replaced by a lethal, blinding fury.

“Where is Salazar?” I asked, my voice dangerously low.

“He’s not here,” Marcus panted. “He sent his hit squad as a distraction. He’s currently at your downtown penthouse.”

I stopped dead in my tracks.

“Marcus,” I said, turning around and sprinting back toward my Escalade. “Lock down the hospital. Keep Leo and Maya secure. I’m going home to finish this.”
