Chapter 7 - The True Heir's Reign

Three Months Later

The top floor of the Drummond Tower offered a panoramic view of the city skyline, a sprawling metropolis of glass and steel that had long been dominated by the shadow of my family's name. Today, the massive boardroom was packed to maximum capacity. Every seat at the long, polished obsidian table was occupied by the primary shareholders, the hedge fund managers, and the remaining elder members of the Drummond Trust.

They sat in an uneasy, nervous silence, their eyes fixed on the empty high-backed chair at the head of the table.

For twelve weeks, the financial world had been rocked by scandals. The mysterious fire at a private medical clinic, the sudden death of my brother Thomas in a "high-speed vehicular accident" while awaiting trial, and the quiet dissolution of several major shell companies had left the board vulnerable, exposed, and terrified. They knew someone was pulling the strings from the dark, systematically liquidating their assets and cutting off their lifelines.

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

I stepped into the room. I was no longer the disheveled, broken man from the hospital or the burning mansion. I wore a sharp, custom-tailored three-piece charcoal suit. My posture was rigid, my expression completely unreadable.

But I didn't walk in alone.

Walking right beside me, her chin held high, her grey eyes scanning the room with a cold, terrifying intelligence that mirrored my own, was Sophia. She was dressed in a simple, elegant dark velvet dress, her hair neatly braided. In her arms, she held a sleek, leather bound folder containing the legal structure of the new corporation.

Behind us came Mrs. Higgins, pushing a modern, high-tech stroller where my three-month-old son sat, wide awake, looking around the room with curious, bright eyes.

A collective gasp rippled through the older members of the board. The Chairman, a frail, ninety-four-year-old man breathing through a portable oxygen concentrator, visibly trembled as he saw the children. He recognized the biological blueprints instantly. He recognized his failed immortality standing right in front of him.

I walked to the head of the table, but I didn't sit down.

Instead, I pulled out the heavy leather chair and gestured for Sophia to take the seat.

The shareholders stared in absolute shock as a nine-year-old girl sat at the head of the largest financial empire in the hemisphere.

"Edward," the Chairman wheezed, his voice shaking through his oxygen mask. "What is the meaning of this? This is a serious corporate assembly. Why have you brought these... these variables into the inner sanctum?"

"These aren't variables, Chairman," I said, my voice cutting through the room like a sheets of ice. "This is Sophia Drummond. And this is my son, Arthur Drummond. They are the sole biological heirs to the entire Drummond estate, the foundation, and every voting share in this room."

"This is absurd!" a senior board member shouted, slamming his fist on the table. "The bylaws clearly state—"

"The bylaws were rewritten yesterday at 4:00 AM," Sophia spoke up, her voice clear, calm, and utterly commanding. The entire room went dead quiet. A nine-year-old girl was controlling the register of the meeting.

She opened the leather folder, sliding a set of documents across the obsidian table. "Using the decrypted files obtained from the Project Resurgence database, my father and I have spent the last ninety days transferring all foundational assets into a primary revocable trust. We have discovered the illegal funding channels used by this board to perform unauthorized human experimentation. If a single person in this room votes against my father's restructuring plan today, the federal indictments, the biometric data, and the forensic accounts will be delivered to the International Criminal Court within five minutes."

She tapped a small digital tablet resting on the table. "The upload is already queued. I suggest you look at the screens in front of you."

Every tablet on the boardroom table chimed simultaneously. The elderly board members looked down, their faces turning an identical, sickly shade of grey as they realized their entire lives, their fortunes, and their freedom were pinned beneath the finger of a child they had tried to harvest.

The Chairman looked up at me, his eyes filled with a mixture of defeat and pure horror. "You... you ruined it, Edward. We could have given you immortality. We could have preserved the name forever."

"The name doesn't belong to a cult of dying old men anymore, Chairman," I said, leaning over the table, my shadow completely eclipsing his fragile frame. "The name belongs to them. You wanted a perfect lineage? You got it. But they aren't your vessels. They are your rulers."

I looked down at Sophia. She looked up at me, a tiny, genuine smile breaking through her serious expression—the first real smile I had seen from her since the day she appeared on my porch in the freezing rain.

"Call the vote, Madam Chairman," I said softly.

Sophia nodded, looking around the room at the terrified oligarchs who had once thought they owned the world.

"All in favor of the total liquidation of the Drummond Trust and the immediate transfer of authority to the heirs," Sophia commanded, her storm-grey eyes flashing with the fire of a new dawn, "raise your hands."

One by one, every hand in the room slowly rose into the air.

The conspiracy was dead. The empire had been conquered. And as I looked at my daughter sitting at the head of the table and my son smiling from his stroller, I knew the loneliness that had consumed my life for twelve long years was gone forever.

We weren't just survivors anymore. We were a family. And the true heirs had finally taken their throne.
