Chapter 8 - Judith’s Last StandOn New Year’s Eve, I returned to the Miller household accompanied by two moving trucks and a pair of armed private security guards.

I had no intention of staying inside for long, but I needed to retrieve my grandmother’s antique vanity set and a few personal heirlooms before putting the property on my list of liquidation targets—yes, as it turned out, the mortgage on Judith’s white-columned suburban mansion had been quietly refinanced by Ryan using forged documents bearing my signature.

The bank was already foreclosing.

When my car pulled into the circular driveway, the front door flew open. Judith charged out onto the porch. She looked ten years older, her hair unbrushed, her designer red velvet dress replaced by an old oversized bathrobe.

“You!” Judith shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at me as I stepped out of the car. “This is all your fault! You ruined my family! You destroyed my son’s future!”

I paused, slipping on my oversized sunglasses, and looked up at her with cold indifference.

“Your son destroyed his own future the day he decided to treat me like an ATM and a punching bag, Judith,” I said, my voice echoing clearly in the cold winter air. “And as for your house? You might want to start packing your fake pearls. The bank is taking possession of the keys on Monday.”

Judith let out a guttural sound of rage and despair, rushing down the steps as if she intended to physically attack me.

My security guards stepped forward instantly, blocking her path with quiet, immovable authority.

“Stay back, ma'am,” one of the guards instructed flatly.

Judith collapsed onto the icy pavement of her own driveway, weeping into her hands as neighbors watched from behind closed blinds. It was the exact same dramatic performance she had put on for years, but this time, there was no audience left to applaud. There was no wealth to hide behind, no illusion of superiority to maintain.

She was just an aging woman reaping the bitter harvest of a lifetime of arrogance and cruelty.
