Chapter 5 - The Eviction of Rebecca WhitmoreWhile Ethan was being processed in federal custody without the possibility of bail due to flight risk, Emily was far from finished.

Her legal team, led by top-tier Chicago asset protection attorney Sarah Vance, executed a swift series of emergency civil injunctions.

For years, Rebecca Whitmore had lived in a luxurious suburban mansion in Lake Forest, Illinois. She constantly bragged to her friends, her neighbors, and Emily about her wealth, her high class, and her absolute superiority over "common workers."

What Rebecca had kept secret was that the Lake Forest mansion wasn't purchased with her late husband's life insurance as she claimed. It had been purchased using a shell company funded entirely by money stolen from small business accounts—accounts that Emily’s forensic team traced directly back to victims of Ethan's fraud scheme.

At 2:00 PM on a crisp Thursday afternoon, a fleet of moving trucks, accompanied by two Cook County Sheriff deputies, pulled up to the gates of the Lake Forest estate.

Rebecca, who had just been temporarily released on a emergency low-bond motion secured by her frantic legal team using the house as collateral, ran to the front porch in her silk bathrobe.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Rebecca shrieked at the deputies. "Get off my property! I will have all of you fired!"

Deputy Miller unclipped a legal notice and slapped it onto the front double doors of the estate.

"Rebecca Whitmore, this property has been seized by order of the Federal Bankruptcy Court under a civil forfeiture writ," the deputy announced coldly. "You have thirty minutes to collect your personal clothing items and vacate the premises."

"Seized?!" Rebecca screamed, clutching her chest. "This is MY house! My son owns this!"

"Your son's assets have been completely frozen by the federal government," Attorney Sarah Vance stepped out from behind a moving truck, holding a tablet. "And since you used this property as collateral for your temporary bail bond, and that property has now been proved to be purchased with proceeds of federal crime, your bail has been revoked."

Behind Sarah, Emily stepped out of a black SUV.

She looked radiant, dignified, and entirely unbothered by the chaos unfolding before her.

Rebecca saw Emily and lost her mind entirely. She lunged forward, clawing at the air like an unhinged wild animal. "You witch! You ruined my son! You ruined my life! I should have poured that boiling stew over your face!"

The two sheriff deputies immediately pinned Rebecca to the manicured lawn, forcing her down into the dirt as handcuffs clicked shut over her wrists for the second time in a week.

Emily walked up to her mother-in-law, looking down at the woman who had tried to humiliate and break her.

"You told me at my wedding that no woman on earth was worthy of your son," Emily said softly. "You were right, Rebecca. No honest woman is worthy of a thief and a coward. And no mother who raises a monster deserves to keep the house she stole to build her fake life."

"I curse the day Ethan brought you into our lives!" Rebecca spat, her face covered in grass and dirt.

"You don't have to curse it," Emily replied calmly. "You'll have the next twenty-five years in federal prison to think about it."
