Chapter 6 - THE SILENCE OF A PREDATOREvelyn’s breath hitched. She forced a breathless, trembling laugh, lifting her chin as she tried to regain her composure.

"Roman, darling... what a surprise," she stammered, smoothing the lapels of her coat. "You shouldn't have tracked me here. This... this little stray was snooping where she shouldn't have been. I was just taking care of a loose end for you."
Roman didn't answer. He walked past her as if she were a ghost, his heavy boots echoing like funeral bells across the concrete floor.
He knelt beside Nora. The ropes biting into her delicate wrists were thick and knotted tight. With hands that trembled only with suppressed rage, Roman pulled a custom switchblade from his inner pocket and flicked it open with a sharp clack. In two swift, precise movements, the ropes fell away.
Nora collapsed forward, her shivering body catching against his broad chest before she hit the floor.
"Mr... Mr. Calder?" she whispered, her vision blurring. "You shouldn't be here... it's a trap..."
"Quiet, Nora," Roman murmured. His voice was no longer a harsh growl; it was impossibly tender, a tone no one in Baltimore had ever heard him use. "I've got you."
