CHAPTER 3 — "The Woman Living Emily's Life Was Closer Than She Ever Imagined."

Emily couldn't move.

"The person pretending to be... me?"

The words echoed inside her head.

Before she could ask another question, the heart monitor screamed.

BEEEEEP!

Doctors rushed into the room.

"Nurse! We're losing him!"

Emily was pushed outside as the medical team fought to save the only man who knew the truth.

The silver key was still clutched tightly in her hand.

Minutes later, the elderly chauffeur appeared beside her.

"My name is Henry," he said quietly.

"I've protected your father for twenty-eight years."

Emily looked at him.

"You knew?"

Henry nodded.

"I knew everything."

"Then why didn't you tell me?"

"Because your father believed you were safer believing he had abandoned you."

Emily felt tears burning her eyes.

"So... he sacrificed my love to keep me alive?"

Henry couldn't answer.

His silence was enough.

Just then, Emily's phone vibrated.

An unknown number.

She answered cautiously.

A woman's calm voice whispered,

"If you're holding the silver key..."

"...don't go to Building Seven."

Emily's heartbeat quickened.

"Who is this?"

"You have exactly one hour before they destroy the evidence."

The call ended.

Henry's face turned pale.

"We're too late."

Without wasting another second, they raced across the city.

When they arrived, the forty-two-story building looked completely abandoned.

No lights.

No employees.

Just silence.

Henry unlocked a hidden elevator using the silver key.

Instead of going up...

The elevator descended.

Ten floors underground.

The doors opened to a massive secret archive.

Rows of steel cabinets stretched into darkness.

In the center of the room stood a single fireproof safe.

Emily inserted the key.

CLICK.

The door slowly opened.

Inside were thousands of documents...

Hard drives...

Photographs...

Birth certificates...

Hospital records...

And one small red folder labeled:

"PROJECT MIRROR."

Emily opened it.

The first page stole the air from her lungs.

Objective: Replace Emily Carter before her eighth birthday.

Her hands began to shake uncontrollably.

Page after page described every detail of her life.

Her school.

Her friends.

Her favorite foods.

Even the scar on her left knee.

Someone had studied her for years...

Preparing another little girl to become Emily Carter.

Henry whispered,

"Oh my God..."

Emily turned the final page.

A photograph fell onto the floor.

It showed two identical eight-year-old girls standing side by side.

One was Emily.

The other...

Looked exactly like her.

Same smile.

Same eyes.

Same birthmark.

Emily stared in horror.

"This... this is impossible."

Then she looked closer.

Written on the back of the photo were seven chilling words:

"One child survives. The other inherits everything."

Before either of them could speak...

A slow clap echoed through the underground vault.

Someone stepped out of the shadows.

The woman smiled.

"Hello, Emily."

"I've been living your life..."

"...for fifteen years."
