CHAPTER 2 — THE SECRET BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH

Margaret’s lips trembled.
“Ethan…”
The billionaire froze.
For thirty years, he had searched for the woman in that photo.
And now she stood before him…
wearing a servant’s uniform.
Victoria’s face turned pale.
“Mr. Blackwood, surely you don’t believe this woman is—”
Ethan raised one hand.
“Say one more word against her, and this wedding ends tonight.”
The ballroom went silent.
Margaret shook her head quickly.
“No… please. I don’t want trouble.”
But Ethan’s eyes darkened.
“Trouble found you first.”
Then he turned to the hotel manager.
“Who hired her?”
The manager swallowed hard.
“She works through a temporary agency, sir.”
“And who allowed a guest to force her onto her knees?”
No one answered.
Because the truth was simple.
Everyone had watched.
And no one had helped.
Ethan looked around the room, disgusted.
“You all wear diamonds, but none of you have dignity.”
Victoria’s father stepped forward, forcing a smile.
“Ethan, let’s not create a scandal. We can settle this privately.”
Ethan laughed coldly.
“Privately?”
He pointed at the phones still recording.
“You were happy to humiliate her publicly. So now the truth will be public too.”
Margaret grabbed his sleeve.
“Please… don’t.”
For the first time, Ethan’s voice softened.
“Why did you disappear?”
Margaret looked at the old photo in his hand.
Her eyes filled with pain.
“Because your father made me.”
A shock passed through the room.
Ethan stopped breathing.
“My father?”
Margaret nodded.
“After the accident… I saved you from the fire. But your father told everyone I kidnapped you. He said if I ever came back, he would destroy my family.”
Ethan’s jaw tightened.
“That’s impossible.”
Margaret reached into her uniform pocket and pulled out a small silver locket.
Inside was another photo.
A little boy.
A hospital bracelet.
And a birth certificate copy folded so many times the paper was nearly broken.
Ethan took it with shaking hands.
Then his face changed.
Not shock.
Not sadness.
Rage.
Because the document didn’t say Margaret was just the woman who saved him.
It said something far worse.
Margaret whispered,
“I wasn’t only your nanny, Ethan.”
Victoria stepped back.
The guests leaned in.
Margaret’s voice cracked.
“I was your mother.”
The entire ballroom exploded in whispers.
Ethan stared at her, unable to speak.
For thirty years, he had believed his mother abandoned him.
For thirty years, he had hated a woman who had been forced into silence.
And now…
He had almost watched the world humiliate her again.
Ethan turned slowly toward Victoria.
Her perfect wedding smile had vanished.
Because the cameras were still recording.
And the billionaire’s next words destroyed everything.
“This marriage is canceled.”
Victoria gasped.
“What?”
Ethan looked at the groom standing silently near the altar.
“Daniel, tell her.”
The groom’s face went white.
Victoria turned to him.
“Tell me what?”
Daniel lowered his head.
“I… I signed the contract.”
“What contract?”
Ethan’s eyes burned.
“The contract proving your family planned to use this marriage to steal Blackwood Group shares.”
Victoria staggered backward.
Then the ballroom doors suddenly burst open.
Two federal agents walked in.
And behind them…
stood a young woman in a hospital gown.
Margaret screamed.
“My daughter…”
Ethan stared at the woman.
Then at Margaret.
Then at the agents.
And the young woman whispered the final words that turned the wedding into a nightmare:
“Mom… they didn’t just steal from Ethan.”
She pointed at Victoria’s father.
May you like
“They stole my kidney too.”
