Chapter 7 - The Continental’s New QueenThree months later, the Continental underwent a massive structural shift.

The underground lounge remained a sanctuary for the city's elite, but the inner workings had changed completely. I was no longer just the floor manager. With Roman’s backing and my own sharp instincts for financial survival, I had stepped into the role of chief operations director, managing the very portfolios that had once been used to crush me.

Caleb Reynolds spent his days in a windowless room deep in the basement of the club, poring over spreadsheets and chasing down delinquent accounts. He never looked up when I walked past, and he never spoke my name without the title of 'Director.'

Judge Arthur Davies had quietly retired from the federal bench citing 'health reasons' shortly after the wedding disaster, his political ambitions permanently derailed by his association with Caleb's financial scandals. Khloe had fled the country for Europe, cutting all ties to the wreckage of her brief marriage.

And Roman? Roman Costa remained what he had always been: the undisputed king of the city's shadows. But the dynamic between us had shifted beyond business, beyond debts, and beyond tactical alliances.

It was a rainy Tuesday evening when Roman walked into my new office on the top floor of the Continental—the penthouse suite that used to belong to the club's old managing syndicate. He poured two glasses of scotch, handed one to me, and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the glittering skyline.

"You've transformed this place, Sadi," he murmured, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. "The old guard wouldn't even recognize it."

"The old guard was weak," I replied, standing beside him and looking out at the city that had once tried to bury me. "They relied on fear. We rely on control."

Roman turned his head, looking at me with a rare, genuine softness in his dark eyes. "And what about us? Are we under my control or yours?"

I smiled, clinked my glass against his, and met his gaze without a single hint of hesitation.

"That depends, Roman. Are you ready to negotiate?"
