Chapter 7 - The Witness from the ShadowsThe courtroom went dead silent. You could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning unit echoing off the high stone walls.

Chuka stood up, trembling slightly, his polished corporate demeanor completely shattered.

“My Lord... that document was executed under domestic duress years ago! It has no legal standing in a commercial property dissolution!” Chuka stammered, his voice cracking with panic.

“Domestic duress?” Justice Adeleke’s voice boomed across the courtroom like thunder. “You signed a legal financial contract acknowledging capital debt to your wife while she fed you and clothed you, and now you call it duress?”

Before Chuka could formulate another lie, the heavy wooden doors at the back of the courtroom swung open.

A murmur swept through the gallery as an elderly, distinguished man in a traditional agbada walked down the center aisle, flanked by two junior officers. It was Elder Marcus, the revered head of the Enugu Cooperative Credit Union and a retired high court magistrate.

“My Lord,” Elder Marcus announced loudly, stopping just before the bar. “With the court’s permission, I am here to serve as a subpoenaed character and financial witness for Mrs. Amara Nwosu.”

Ifeoma Nwankwo gasped audibly from the front row, clutching her designer handbag as her father stared in absolute disbelief.

Elder Marcus stepped into the witness box, took the oath, and laid down an even thicker ledger on the judge’s desk.

“For over a decade, this court has witnessed many matrimonial disputes,” Elder Marcus testified, his voice carrying the weight of absolute moral authority. “But I have rarely seen a woman sacrifice so completely for a man who repaid her with betrayal. Every single cooperative loan cited in these files was guaranteed by Amara Nwosu. When Chuka Nwosu was starving as a student, she was the one standing in the market until midnight. She didn't just support him—she built him.”
