Chapter 8 - The Collapsing EmpireThe trial lasted less than two hours after Elder Marcus’s testimony.

There was no legal defense left for Chuka. His lies had evaporated under the blinding light of unarguable documentary evidence. ☕

Justice Adeleke didn't even retire to chambers to deliberate. He sat back in his oversized leather chair, picked up his heavy wooden gavel, and delivered a landmark judgment that would make front-page news across every national newspaper in Nigeria by evening.

“The petition for sole asset retention filed by the petitioner is hereby dismissed with severe prejudice,” Justice Adeleke declared, his voice ringing with absolute finality.

“Furthermore, this court rules that the respondent, Mrs. Amara Nwosu, holds a legally binding fifty-percent equity stake in Nwosu & Associates, alongside joint ownership of all real estate properties acquired during the marriage. Additionally, given the fraudulent misrepresentation of marital contribution, the petitioner is ordered to cover all legal costs incurred by the respondent.”

Bang!

The gavel struck the wooden block, sealing Chuka’s professional and financial ruin in a single, echoing blow.

Chuka collapsed back into his chair, burying his face in his hands as cameras flashed furiously from the press gallery at the back.

Ifeoma Nwankwo stood up abruptly, turned her back on him without a single word, and stormed out of the courtroom, her expensive shoes clicking sharply against the marble floor. Her father had already signaled his guards to distance the family name from the unfolding corporate scandal.

The brilliant, untouchable barrister was suddenly a destitute fraud.
