Chapter 1 - THE RECKONINGThe air in the room was so thick you could carve it. Renata Voss, the woman who had effectively raised me, looked at the screen and then at me. Her face wasn't one of remorse—it was one of cold, hard calculation.

"You’ve been soft, Adrian," she said, her voice dripping with venom. "Too many years surrounded by 'family' who don't understand the cost of power. Elena Brooks was a weakness. She made you look at her, care for her. And she made you look at that brat."
I didn't yell. I didn't reach for my gun. I simply walked over and tilted her chin up. "You stole from me. You tried to ruin a woman who has worked harder for me than you have in a decade. And most importantly, you made a promise to a child that you would ruin her life. That was your final mistake."
