"Yes, Mia," I lied. "We’re playing the most important game of hide and seek ever. And you have to be very, very quiet."
I looked at Elena. She looked at me, not with the subservience of a maid, but with the fire of a woman protecting her cub. "If they get to her," she said, "you kill me first."
"I’m not killing you, Elena," I replied, my voice dropping to a dangerous growl. "I’m going to kill everyone who tried to hurt her."
