Chapter 9 - Rebuilding the EmpireThree weeks later, the boardrooms of Roses Global in London looked entirely different.

Gone were the sycophantic executives like Marcus Vance, replaced by independent auditors, human rights advocates, and tech ethicists dedicated to honoring Clara’s vision of decentralized, ethical artificial intelligence.

Alexander Roses sat at the head of the massive mahogany conference table, wearing a crisp, perfectly tailored Italian suit. His temple still bore a faint, fading scar from the M56 crash, but his posture was relaxed, his eyes clear and at peace for the first time in six years.

"Mr. Roses," his new chief compliance officer said, sliding a digital tablet across the table. "The transition of the robotics division into the Clara Roses Foundation is complete. All illicit Yakuza-linked assets have been successfully frozen and redirected to global orphan and stray animal rescue funds."

Alexander nodded. "Good. Make sure the Manchester branch receives top-tier funding. Tell Declan his dockside warehouse is officially designated as our primary logistical hub."

The officer smiled and nodded, exiting the boardroom and leaving Alexander alone in the grand, sunlit penthouse office overlooking the London skyline.

The heavy double doors opened softly.

In trotted the tan puppy—now looking slightly larger, sleeker, and bursting with boundless energy—followed closely by the white puppy, whose broken leg had healed completely under the care of Manchester’s finest veterinary specialists.

The white puppy trotted straight across the plush carpet, jumped up onto Alexander’s lap, and curled into a tight, warm ball against his chest, letting out a soft, contented sigh.

The tan puppy sat by Alexander’s chair, tail wagging rhythmically against the floorboards, keeping watch as it always had.

Alexander reached down, gently stroking the soft fur of both dogs. He looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the endless expanse of the city, feeling the warm, steady heartbeat against his chest.

He hadn't just saved two stray puppies on a rain-soaked Manchester street.

They had saved him.
