Chapter 6 - The True Queen of Hartwell House

The giant screen flickered to life. Instead of corporate graphics, it played a crystal-clear audio recording—the phone call Arthur Rourke had made to the hitmen, asking if Mara and Ivy were dead.
The ballroom erupted into gasps of horror.
Next, documents appeared on the screen: bank transfers from Arthur Rourke to the corrupt police officers, alongside the medical records from the Naples hospital four years ago, showing that Mara Ellis was the woman treated for severe smoke inhalation and burns from saving Julian, while Camille Rourke had never even entered the facility until three days later.
"No! This is a lie! It’s a deepfake!" Camille shrieked, rushing the stage. "Julian, you’re insane! You're ruining us for a maid!"
"The only thing being ruined today is the Rourke family," Julian said coldly.
At that exact moment, a dozen federal agents entered the ballroom. The lead agent marched straight up to Arthur and Camille, producing arrest warrants.
"Arthur Rourke, Camille Rourke, you are under arrest for attempted murder, extortion, fraud, and corporate espionage. Conspiracy to commit a felony. Hands behind your back."
The crowd watched in absolute shock as the glamorous Camille Rourke was forced to her knees in her white silk dress, handcuffs clicking loudly around her wrists. She screamed and cursed, her makeup smearing with tears, as she and her father were dragged out of the gala in front of every television camera in the state.
Julian turned away from the spectacle, looking down at Mara. The entire room was dead silent, waiting for his next move.
Julian dropped to one knee. Not to pick up a broken charm this time, but to look up at the woman who had saved him in the dark.
He pulled out a velvet box. Inside it wasn't the stolen Hartwell Emerald. It was a stunning, custom-designed platinum ring. The band was shaped like two delicate, intertwining wings, and at the center sat a flawless, radiant pink diamond.
"Mara," Julian said, his voice carrying through the microphone, filled with a profound, unwavering emotion. "Four years ago, you gave me my life back. You asked for nothing, and you suffered in silence to protect our beautiful daughter. I spent years in the dark, but the moment I saw that silver hummingbird in Ivy’s hand, I found my light again. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, and the true queen of Hartwell House?"
Tears streamed down Mara’s face, but this time, they were tears of pure joy. She looked down at Ivy, who was smiling and nodding happily.
"Yes," Mara whispered, her voice echoing through the speakers. "Yes, Julian. A thousand times yes."
The ballroom erupted into a deafening standing ovation.
Julian stood, sliding the ring onto Mara’s finger before pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss. He then scooped Ivy up into his arms, the little girl laughing as she hugged his neck.

As they walked down the stage together, a united family, Ivy proudly held up her favorite toy. It was no longer the worn stuffed rabbit. In her tiny hand, she held a brand-new, polished gold necklace.
Suspended from the chain was a beautiful, flawless hummingbird. And this time, its wings were perfectly straight, ready to fly.
