Chapter 10 - The Last OrderSix months later, the Hawthorne Grill had officially closed its doors to the public.

The old neon sign above the entrance had been replaced with a discreet, elegant brass plaque bearing a simple, enigmatic insignia: The Beckett Group.
Inside, the private dining room had been transformed into the central command headquarters for the most powerful logistics and financial syndicate in the tri-state area. There were no more menus, no more frantic waiters dodging VIPs, and no more threats whispered across sticky tables.
Lana Beckett sat at the head of the long mahogany table, now fitted with dual-monitor command screens displaying real-time global shipping routes, encrypted financial transfers, and security feeds from every major port on the eastern seaboard.
She wore a charcoal-grey tailored suit, her demeanor radiating absolute authority and unshakeable calm.
The heavy oak door opened, and Victor Marlow walked in. He looked relaxed for the first time in his life, wearing a simple black shirt without the telltale bulge of a shoulder holster beneath his arm.
"The international shipping board just approved our acquisition of the European freight corridors," Victor reported, setting a sealed manila envelope down on her desk. "We now control every major supply chain from Berlin to New York."
Lana opened the envelope, scanned the signature at the bottom of the document, and nodded with quiet satisfaction.
"Good," she said, looking up at him. "And the municipal permits for the new downtown logistics hub?"
"Signed, sealed, and delivered," Victor replied with a faint, respectful smile. "Nobody in the city dares question our paperwork anymore. You've turned a criminal empire into a legitimate global corporation, Lana."
"I didn't change the empire, Victor," Lana replied, leaning back in her executive chair and looking out through the reinforced glass window toward the bright, sunlit street outside. "I just changed who was holding the water pitcher."
Leo stepped into the room carrying a silver tray with two crystal glasses of sparkling water and a single fresh lemon slice. He set one glass down in front of Lana and the other in front of Victor.
"We have a new reservation for tonight," Leo announced with a grin. "A couple of high-profile delegates from the Swiss banking sector want to discuss an exclusive partnership."

Lana picked up her glass, her eyes sparkling with cold, brilliant intelligence.
"Send them in, Leo," Lana said smoothly. "And make sure they know the rules before they sit down."
