Chapter 9 - Closing the NotebookOn a quiet Sunday afternoon, sitting at my new wooden desk in my own bedroom, I pulled a brand-new, unlined notebook out of my backpack.

It had a simple green cover with no spiral binding, no torn edges, and no hidden pages.
For months, the old blue spiral notebook had served as evidence, a weapon, a shield, and a survival guide. It lived now in a secure federal evidence locker, part of a closed case file that had changed the state’s legal landscape forever.
I opened the clean white page, picked up a black gel pen from my pencil cup, and clicked it into place.
I didn't write about locked pantries.
I didn't write about midnight feedings, hidden wire transfers, or sirens echoing down Elmwood Street.
Instead, I wrote the first sentence of a brand-new chapter:
Today, the sun came up over Westfield, and for the first time in my life, I didn't have to look over my shoulder to know I was safe.

I smiled, closing the notebook gently.
The past was behind me. The future was wide open. And my story was finally my own.
