Chapter 15 - The Geneva VaultThe subterranean vault beneath the First National Bank of Geneva was a marvel of modern engineering—walls of reinforced titanium, digital biometric scanners, and thick steel doors that could withstand a direct missile strike.

Accompanied by two Swiss bank directors and Dominic Moretti, I walked down the brightly lit marble corridor toward Private Vault 77.
"If you please, Ms. Carter," the senior bank director said nervously, gesturing toward the biometric scanner panel.
I stepped forward. I placed my right palm flat against the glass plate and leaned in for the retinal scan.
BEEP.
A soft green light flashed across the console. For three seconds, absolute silence filled the vault. Then, with a heavy, satisfying mechanical groan, the massive six-foot-thick circular steel door began to swing outward, revealing rows of safety deposit boxes and secure storage racks filled with physical bearer bonds, gold bullion, and encrypted data drives.
Total value: exactly forty-two million dollars.
The bank director wiped sweat from his forehead. "The funds and assets are fully verified and transferred to your designated Moretti-Carter holding trust, Ms. Carter."
"Thank you," I said smoothly, turning around to face Dominic.
Dominic walked into the vault, picked up a heavy gold bar, and chuckled softly. "Your father had terrible morals, Avery, but he certainly knew how to pick a high-yield portfolio."
"He was a thief who stole from the wrong people," I replied, pulling a gold-plated pen from my pocket and signing the final transfer documents. "And now, those funds are going to fund cancer research clinics and kidney disease foundations across the entire Midwest."

Dominic raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "You're giving it all away? All forty million?"
"Not all of it," I smiled, sliding the primary digital key card into my pocket. "I kept enough to ensure that no delivery woman in Chicago ever has to freeze outside a millionaire's mansion just to pay her mother's medical bills again."
